Pretty much this, and it even goes back as far as the so-called “golden-age of G4” (Faust-made/influenced FiM), given how Twilight’s magical aptitude varies from episode to episode.

Enchanted magical artifacts are the most powerful type of magic in G4. This was outright stated in… one of the episodes. I think it was in Season 8? Anyway, perhaps that carries to G5.

We haven’t seen any fancy unicorn magic in G5; honestly, the most destructive magic shown thus far in G5 has come from earth ponies and their tree-sized flowers. Those things could easily ruin the structural integrity of buildings and make them collapse after the flowers are dispelled (and wither away to dust). Or even, for instant effect, have one grow sideways. Boom, instant battering ram. And said flowers have already caused a pseudo-epidemic, since all ponies apparently have pollen allergies.

I think maybe the Unity Crystal, with it containing all of the world’s magic and ponies only being able to use magic through it, possibly doesn’t impose strict limits on how much magic any one pony can use. Hence the earth ponies wrecking things. They essentially have the magic of all earth ponies combined. Extend this to the other pony tribes, and I suspect we will see pegasi singlehandedly creating F5 tornadoes and unicorns blasting apart buildings with concentrated solar plasma.

Oh, dear. Such things may divide ponykind again, but I bet the show won’t show the pony tribes holding too much animosity toward each other… hopefully.

My point is, G5 is much more fair than G4 concerning magic and its distribution between the pony tribes.

Toy manufacturers don’t really impose particularly strict rules on the animation license, only in the interest of actually selling toys, and if it doesn’t bother the kids or the parents, they have no incentive to care one way or the other. In other words, the responsibility for these sorts of inconsistencies lie squarely upon the shoulders of the animation production team.

I understand being upset about the lack of consistency in magic.

I don’t understand treating inconsistency in magic as if it’s something that started in or become especially pronounced in G5.

And I thought that was Sunny’s Alicorn glitter, anyway.

Internal logic with pony magic? They never even showed us how they do spells in G4; they read a book and then focus their horn. That’s about as much internal logic as there ever was.
You’re looking for “sense” in a show about empowering girls with magical sapient fantasy creatures from another dimension. Cool your jets.

Look, I just the world to have some internal logic. I know that that’s now what Hasbro goes for, which makes it very difficult for me to care much about any of the canon stories.
I know many other people don’t really care, and that’s fine, it’s just that I prefer if things made more logical sense.

I’m not trying to change how these stories are made or enjoyed, but that doesn’t stop me from making random slightly passive-aggressive quips about it like so many others.

TYT is a slice-of-life show, any actual worldbuilding will come from MYM and the comics.

TYT writing doesn’t seem to care much about the implications of things. They’re just throwing out some hijinks that can entertain for a few minutes.
I don’t know how much actual worldbuilding we’re going to be getting from the show.
At least the comics are trying.

I get all of that, but I’m just saying there needs to be some level of consistency and rules in the magic so it doesn’t just turn into this thing that allows the plot to do whatever it wants.
It’s a problem in the main G4 seasons as well, with how magic is shown as able to do a bunch of crazy stuff on accident, with no real catch or consequences.
It’s even worse with how it makes unicorns so much more powerful than most other creatures, even when they’re supposed to be equal to earth ponies and pegasi in at least some sense.

Pipp accidentally made an easy age spell. Or somepony else made it easier after Twilight took over as ruler of Equestria. Magic changed since G4’s present day, so both ways are acceptable.
