Yellow jerry cans are used for diesel, which is a lot more common in Europe, and increases to the diesel excise were the main cause for the gilet jaunes protests, so it would have been on theme.

It’s based on the events of a tabletop game, Relache and her organisation were to affect the seizure of the French state including by exploiting the civilisational anxieties that are a big deal in France right now. The people aren’t exactly literal, they’re not at any point all in the same room with each other, but it’s to show that the institutions that are supposed to have an antagonistic relationship with each other (the military and the mob, the deputy and the journalist) or a subservient relationship (the military and the civilian government) are completely oblivious to the fact their conflicts are in the interest of the pony/ies, whom they think they have to themselves, when it really ought to be obvious.
