This was uploaded back in April, around the time of the mentioned controversy.

It’s not a hater rant. I just think that their opinions on the fandom from the perspective of outsiders is interesting.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

What people need to remember is that every fandom has members who go too far and do things that neither the fandom itself nor its other members condone or support.

Like the sports hooligan who believes he’s justified in assaulting fans of the opposing team in the street, or the Twilight reader who hates you because your name is Jacob. Or the true believer who thinks Lord Jesus has ordered him to bomb abortion clinics.

Honestly, I’m not too happy to be lumped in with the oddities and have the uninformed masses point and shout “They’re all freaks!” Conversely, it’s his choice. Maybe he’s delusional, or maybe he’s just trolling very hard. I knew a guy on a fanfiction circuit many years back whose online persona had an entire harem of various anime girls. He never stepped out of character and kept bragging about his “wives”. Annoying, but it was his choice. And I wasn’t him, I didn’t act like him, and ultimately he had little impact on my life.

So what does it mean? There will always be weird fans. And there will always be uninformed people who either think you’re all the same and thus weird, or don’t believe it but still use it to try to belittle you. Ultimately you can only hope to tolerate it.
