What about it? I se what you are trying to say, but his friends weren’t in any immediate danger, and a little boy laughing at the inherently ridiculous sights in front of him is hardly evidence of sociopathy.

@lumpfish
I guess we have different views on what constitutes his “darker side.”

Do you really see Spike as being self-absorbed? He’s been the “huggiest” of all the characters before this season, and his role so far has always been as the principal cheerleaders of the other characters. He even attempts to help Dash, a character he’s barely interacted with, become even more popular in “Mare Do Well”. He was the first to wonder if the sad Pinkie was the real Pinkie. He’s constantly trying to make himself useful to others. I can’t even begin to list all of the times he’s worried about Twilight. Is it really fair to say that he’s been principally concerned about himself through the series? If he had been, then I don’t think I would have come to enjoy his character as much as I have. Yes, he’s been sarcastic, because that’s his principal coping method, but he’s never really been a jerk about it until now.

But yes, for the majority of season 4 he’s been written like shit. Power Ponies, which was supposed to be ‘his’ episode, had barely any of his character traits besides his fear of abandonement and instead just had him whining about how useless he was for 20 minutes while all the other characters got to do cool shit.
lumpfish

What? Spike was good this episode.

If you’re going to whine about Spike being ‘jerkish’, then you probably just don’t like Spike’s character. Spike isn’t like the ponies. He isn’t some element of harmony goody two-shoes, he’s a self-serving adolescent who has a mean streak of greed.

He’ll pull through and always supports his friends of course, but in the end he isn’t the epitome of kindness or generosity.

Eh, he wasn’t that bad.

He complimented rarity on her singing, and when she reminded him there where other sings he said “Meh, you were okay I guess.”

It was kinda jerkish, but he would compliment only rarity. It wasn’t completely OOC, but it wasn’t a flattering characterization of him this week either.
