Not a Llama - Happy April Fools Day!

I’m conflicted.
One on hand, Spike and Big Mac confirmed to interact.
On the other hand, their interaction is used to portray the two male main characters as being obsessed with stereotypical guy stuff.
Imagine if when the girls hung out, all they did was discuss makeovers.

Even Lauren Faust never said they didn’t ever do “ stereotypical stuff” heck, in s1e08, the girls are having a sleepover. The original point was to have a girls show that did not make the girls ONLY into one dimensional stereotypes. You can be well rounded and still do something “stereotypical” of you.

It doesn’t punish those things, in fact, it shows both sides, you can be strong, and not be a stereotype, even if you do some of those things.

Heck, myself, sometimes, you might find me at a videogame store, othertimes, you might see me spitting gravel or mud from the back tires of a Honda three Wheeler, among other things of course.

Let’s just say, if you have seen me IRL, the last thing you would think is “brony”, if at all.

The complaint I’ve seen about that one (as well as other episodes where multiple characters could have learned a lesson) is that ONLY one character usually learns a lesson.

For example, Rarity could have learned that all of her designs won’t appeal to everypony, but that neither means that it was a bad design, nor that the other pony was wrong to dislike it. For my part, I’m happy to leave stuff like that to “extended cut” fanfic.

OK, missed a couple of points I wanted to address..

@Dragonmage
What did you want Rarity to call Spike instead? “Pal”? “Lover”? “Spiny Norman”? And as for “Equestria Games”, it’s been really common for characters to stumble through the first two acts of the episode before coming through in the third act (“Sonic Rainboom”, “Hurricane Fluttershy”, “Magical Mystery Cure”, etc.). So, yeah, can’t say I was bothered by those points.

@MrXemnas1992
As much as I disagree with most of Dragonmage’s arguments, I’d have to say you’re overreacting to him. Now if it was DMB you were replying to…

It’s not, is it?

Well, that’s because the character has probably aged in-universe. We don’t know how much considering how incredibly vague the timeline is (“Princess Twilight” implies that it’s only been a year since the pilot, but there’s no way that could possibly be the case with all that’s happened).

@Dragonmage
What on earth makes you think I’m putting him down by calling him a “little kid”? Spike’s incredibly precocious, he’s brave, he’s loyal, he’s tough; much of the time he shows more maturity and intelligence than average modern American teens. But he’s also capable of showing his age, whether it’s having “smell my dirty feet” on a to-do list or concocting a paper-thin plot to get rid of a perceived rival. To me, saying he’s a little kid (I’m thinking roughly 10 years old, now) isn’t a way of putting him down; it’s a way of highlighting how special he is, and how much farther he has yet to go.

And personally, I thought “Power Ponies”, “Inspiration Manifestation”, and “Equestria Games” were great for Spike, showing him facing personal fears and challenging obstacles, yet he persevered and came out on top.

An episode where the Mane 6 (or some subset thereof) accompany Spike in something he wants to do, and that turns out better than “Dragon Quest” (and more voluntary than “Power Ponies”), would be nice, though.

@Rotul7
It’s been proven on more than one occasion that Spike has a life outside of his role as Twilight’s assistant.

My favorite example of this was in ‘Ponyville Confidential.’ The CMCs did an interview with Spike about life in Canterlot, and to emphasize just how ‘in the know’ he was, he even included a photograph of himself wearing a fez and a smoking jacket!

Too bad Diamond Tiara only cared about learning as much juicy gossip as possible, it seemed like it would have been an interesting read.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

It only took 5 seconds just to literally show that he’s in the loop/has a life outside the Mane 6 and to not insinuate that he’s left in the dark when they’re off at events, adventures, gatherings or whatever. Was that so hard writers? XD.

Also Foam Hands?? They sure have great tailors for different species in this pony based society. Also Flutters showed an unnatural sense of bravery choosing to go into the dangerous wild instead of chilling with Mac and Spike.

Yeah, that one to he was quite competent. (Aside, from ignorantly giving Rarity said cursed book in the first place, and not telling her the truth, but he realized he shouldn’t of done that later, and tried to fix it all.)

It’s like some people only pay attention to the negative/silly things that happen to him, rather then the positive. (Same with other characters to.)

Exactly. The way some of these fans constantly go on about how Spike’s being “mistreated”, you’d think they somehow confused Friendship is Witchcraft for the actual show. XD

Am I missing something? I haven’t seen alot of Spike-hate from fans the past season. Also, the “Spike Justice Warriors” are a very tiny amount of people. Most of the time, it’s that one guy who drew Fluttershy beating Applejack bloody. (Becuase for that one moment where AJ lightly smacked Spike on the back of the head for being tactless to Twilight… Seriously, that shows how over-protective said guy is.)

As for using “SAYS” (“Spike At Your Service”) as an example of Spike being at his “lowest point” is a bit ironic, because regardless of the gags, and his clumbsyness/naivty being a li’l overplayed in it, in the end he still saved the day. (And to be fair, a few chores he did for AJ he didn’t screw up.)

Also, Spike had his so-called “butt-monkey” moments in Seasons 1 & 2, as well. (Something people forget.) Half the time, he was falling off ladders, getting burried in books, trying to compete with an owl, overreacting thinking Twilight hates him over a small spat they had, and such. (He even was a li’l bit of a jerk to Twi’ in “Winter Wrap-up.”)

Not to mention he had his positive points in Season 4, like in “Power Ponies,” and “Equestria Games” where he came through in the end.

Spike fans aren’t the only ones.
Luna Fans: Celestia’s a tyrant!
Fluttershy Fans: Someone made Fluttershy cry! Kill them!
Sweetie Fans: Rarity’s the worst sister ever!
Every character has annoying fans. If you let annoying fans ruin a character for you, you are not going to have many characters left to like.
