It’s more “Victory over nazism”, which is a victory for all mankind. It’s also celebration of the fact that we have survived that mess.
 
You know, originally it was an informal celebration organized by the veterans themselves, it became an official holyday much later.

Eh. I downvoted it because the implication seems to be that there’s something other than the end of the war to celebrate. The date was also celebrated in Easy Germany under the name “Liberation Day”, which is a much more noble sentiment next to the idea that a war is something that can even have a winner, as if it was a childish game of sport. Celebrating an outcome of a war rather than relief from it seems like a spat in the face of everyone it touched, though the holiday itself could be taken either way.

The date indicated is 9th of May, the day Nazi Germany surrendered to Soviet Union. The mutant creature depicted on the ushanka appears to be an approximation of the double-headed eagle depicted on the Russian coat of arms.

He’s cute, but what does the russian Text mean?
