Tanetane Island post-mushroom wasn’t really scary in the normal sense. It was more psychological. It was basically a more malicious version of Moonside from EarthBound that’s not played for laughs.

You know the real fucked up part of Tanetane Island?
 
That was the toned down version. What Itoi originally wrote for the sequence was so horrifying that it actually gave HIM nightmares and he decided to tone it down.
 
How much worse could it have been originally if what we got was the toned down version?

I barely remember Tanetane Island being just Magicant with harder monsters, but I assume it was far creepier than I actually remember. XD

Needs to be a “tanetane island” tag for the bizarre shit the mushrooms put you through.

it wasn’t mushrooms and they didn’t know what effects it could have eat them, they where low of HP and all the items were washed up.

Tanetane island is a horrifying look into the psyche of the characters.
 
Someone needs to write a proper Mother 3/FiM fanfiction involving it.
