I really dislike how most sidefics are an everlasting competition to out-edgy eachother

Sidefics don’t have to be over-the-top edgy to be good. Your main character doesn’t have to be a spooky scary breed of horse only seen in some Harry Potter book

Look at Pink Eyes for example. The main character is exact opposite of…whatever this guy is. And the story is light-hearted but deceptively grim, never going out of his way to shout “NOTHING PERSONNEL KID” in your face after slicing you with a katana.

And yet, it’s in the Big 5. The highest honor any sidefic could ever have.
