iirc swastika bans on WWII plastic models (decals) often mean the symbols are 4 bars that you have to form yourself.
Well basically you are not allowed to show a swastika or anything related to the NSDAP, SS or the Nazi Regime in public or downplay/deny the holocaust. However its okay in schools or in private to mention/show it in form of education but i think even in schoolbooks or images they can’t print or show the swastika or SS symbol even for educational reasons. Germany just doesnt want to associate with the Nazi Regime but also doesnt want to deny that it happend. Its basically a chapter that we are not proud of that happend. However parodies are okay… for a weird reason. Probably because it is fine to make parodies about it aslong as you show the Nazis and Hitler as the victims. Music like the first two parts of the German anthem aswell as marching songs from the SS are totally banned and prohibited to sing/play in public
As for videogames they are mostly censored due to violence and stuff. Games like Wolfenstein however (except new world order) are totally banned in germany for obvious reasons. Games like Southpark Stick of Truth got heavily censored with Black Bars.
@thps48
he also has a drill attachment to that
Destroyman’s Buster Cannon is closer to his crotch than Stroheim’s gatling. :j
AROUND
AND NOTHING’S EVER GONNA BRING YOU DOWN X3
nazi/10 would have consensual sex with
Damn right, he’s that manly
as far as i know, nazis can be portrayed in germany (in media/theater) as long as it’s not in a positive/revisionist way.
showing nazis are bumbling idiots, good.
showing nazis are right all along, baaaad.
personally stroheim not being a nazi would probably make him boring. to quote tvtropes
“What’s this? A Nazi has let loose an ancient evil, and instead of trying to control it or cut a deal with it, he realizes that Evil Is Not a Toy and immediately tries to kill it? Weird…”
it makes him unique among nazi characters. it’s either they realize their mistakes, modifies their belief (like baron strucker who becomes more tolerant but still evil) or becomes evilier than hitler (red skull).
Eh, I’m not sure how problematic Nazis in German media even is. Video games have it pretty bad, but that’s because the censorship laws make game companies downright paranoid. It’s mostly just symbols that are banned (which is a reflection of views on video games here, since Nazi symbols in works of art are normally fair game), but they’re very reluctant to even call them “Nazis” in German versions of games. (i.e. “Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army” is just called “Sniper Elite: Zombie Army”). The SE games are also a good example of how silly it is, since several games feature Hitler. Guess what, he’s not taken out of the German versions.
There are also several German movies that are about the Third Reich and Nazis, most notably
Hitler Rants: The Movie“Downfall”. Can’t say I ever heard that those were particularly controversial (well, some people complained that Hitler was “humanized” too much in Downfall…).Comedy also seems to be fair game. For example, more than ten years ago, a popular comedy show had a sketch series featuring Hitler clones. I don’t think that was much controversy about it (considering how much I liked that show, I’d probably heard of any). Actually Hitler is a popular subject for comedy shows, from fake documentaries to parodies of illiteracy awareness PSAs. Most recently, a TV show parodied Youtube videos (and one Youtuber in particular) with Hitler. Some people found it tasteless, but most complaints came from fangirls of the Youtuber in question, who found it insulting towards him.
Overall… I really wouldn’t say that there is a “hysteria” and that there is a “huge problem” with depicting Nazis in media here. It’s not entirely uncontroversial and some people can be overly conscious, but it’s not so bad overall.
In Italy, public display of Nazist or Fascist imagery is forbidden, and any graphic content with non-historical intent is generally frowned upon, but there’s no general hysteria about it. Nothing like Germany.
Mainly because, fortunately, any resurgence phenomenon has been pretty much meaningless so far.
There are some buildings and public artworks that somehow survived the antifascist purges after WWII, some with lictorial fasces, or Mussolini’s engraved quotes or effigies. Municipalities now keeps them for purely historical reasons.
With the original OP for Aryanne, his purpose was to put her in excruciating bondage for being “naughty”.
With Araki, he’s probably an ADD sufferer like most otaku, and was simply egging on those with no formal context. X3
Though, I know Germany has a huge problem with depicting Nazis in media arts, I know nothing of Japan’s or Italy’s stance. :T
From what I can tell, it’s okay so long as they’re not shown in any racist imagery.
Are there a lot of national anthems that don’t talk about how much better their subject nation is, or calls for unity or to common cause that don’t put those goals above all else? It’s kindasorta inherent to the central theme of putting aside differences to work towards a goal that’s more important than other concerns.
I spend enough time reminding other Americans about our own history, I never presume that ignorance of such is any less common in countries that have even more of it than we do.
I’m always amused when Americans try to lecture me about my own country. I’m aware of when it was composed and why. And that doesn’t run contrary to my point at all. Hell, even back then, several people were worried about the the possible repercussions the nationalistic spirit, that caused the unification, could have. As far separate as they seem to be, the spirit of the unification era and the one of the Third Reich (which showed how dangerous nationalism is) are very much connected.
Besides, you can’t get more nationalistic than proclaiming your nation’s superiority. The line “Germany over everything in the world” is quite blatant in that regard. No wonder the first verse was the only one to be used in Nazi Germany’s anthem.
