Adorable? More like your worst nightmare. They look like creepy aliens with big black eyes from classical sci-fi movies. Creepy aliens with big black eyes who can zap you and who can fly after you with wings.

Not everything with big, round eyes looks adorable. Heck, the ponies of Equestria themselves are the prime example for it that not everything with big, round eyes looks automatically adorable just because it has big, round eyes.
 
I see, there are still some bronies who project G1 - G3 on Friendship is Magic and who let their view of My Little Pony get clouded by that early atrocities of ponies.  
For some it’s time to wake up and realize that My Little Pony is not the cutesy-wootsy franchise anymore that it once was.

I’m always surprised how FIM authors can make magical stuff out of the most ordinary things.

I suspect they’re not just dream-creatures. If nothing else, the animators spent too much time on them for them to be a one-shot menace here. Like parasprites, I expect they’ll be back.

I’d like to think they’re real myself, just not exactly common around Ponyville.
 
They could be a rare part of the Everfree’s wildlife, or could be located in an entirely different wilderness.
