Howdy, I am looking to upgrade my current art supplies, and I am looking for some brand recommendations, or if getting new stuff is even worth while.

Currently I am about on about a grade school level of stuff. I draw on normal printer paper, and have a box of cheap crayola colored pencils with a couple of writing pens, and pencils.

my biggest questions are about the colored pencils and paper.
my complaints with the pencils is lack of color options, soft and brittle core (anything sharper than a 9mm parabellum breaks very easily, makes it difficult to get fine details), colors do not layer well, if at all, and inconsistent coverage/color shade (scan vs visual colors). But, I am unsure if some of these problems stem from the pencil, the paper, or my own ineptness.

I have been looking at some options, in particular prisma color pencils and markers. but these are quite expensive and there are a heck of alot of other cheaper options. looking at online reviews these dont seem to be much different from crayolas.

So I ask: Is it worth it to get new colored pencils and some proper drawing paper? If so, any recommendations?

And finally I have been thinking about trying digital (I’ve been dabbling with it for a bit now), but I dont know where to start, and I am not sure what sort of hardware or software I would need to do that. I guess you need an Ipad or touch screen monitor and some sort of program to do it (making the assumption that all these great pics are not drawn with a mouse), but again, I dont know

thanks

Generally made as an SVG in Inkscape, sometimes Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator or a few other programs. Inkscape is the most common and also the ones I use. Vector refers to a clean image made with strokes and paths. It doesn’t have to be an SVG, but it’s nice.
