I’m mostly new and very very late here (Yes i understand season 9 is the last season but I don’t care) but I’m going to speak out my mind here and now since for a long time I’ve merely watched from the sidelines and stayed silent until now.
you probably have seen these pictures i drew and posted here:
What I am trying to do here is to both flesh out a completely original location, adding a sense of history to that spinoff’s setting and also in some way, laying the groundwork for writers to make fics revolving around the concept of excursions into the human world happening long before Sunset Shimmer’s arrival into that world, though keeping it constricted to only that City’s History and a timeframe between the years 1830 and 1960 (roughly 130 years). so in essence, period pieces/historical fantasy stories set in the human world. Or just making fics set in the present but exploring this concept in past tense.
My first concept based around this idea was that of certain equestrian magicians and sorcerers fleeing to the human world during the 19th Century and starting a new life under the guise of wealthy entrepreneurs, inventors, architects, doctors or scientists. Sometimes even as spiritualists, occultists or esotericists and helping in supporting and advocating the spiritualist, mysticism, and esoteric movements during the 19th century and early 20th century.
They would combine human scientific methods and concepts and technology (at the time: 19th century and early 20th century) with their research and knowledge on Equestrian magic to produce various inventions and “potions”(Medicines), make new discoveries and breakthroughs in equestrian magicm, as well as make attempts to collaborate and refine existing and previous writings on various aspects of Equestrian magic into a more understandable and cleaner format (cue lots of typewriter sounds). The more permanent marks they leave in the human world coming in the form of buildings they constructed throughout Canterlot City. Either imbued with equestrian magic (via carving symbols and patters into the metal,wood or bricks or incorporating them into the overall architectural design of the place) or constructed with materials found only in Equestria, causing them to exhibit magical properties. all of which are either tower-like in design or involve towers in the design (ex: Florine Manor having two towers). both hinting at their previous backgrounds as wizards or conjurers as well as convey a sense of isolation from “normal” people, which the magicians use to study in peace. It also demonstrates their eccentricity and somewhat antisocial tendencies and social awkwardness.
Not all of these buildings would serve as their home. They can also come in the form of public, residential, industrial or commercial buildings but in truth, they serve as enormous antennae to channel in equestrian magic, concentrating it and storing it long term to fulfill specific but unknown roles, uses and purposes later on. The details of which, only these sorcerers know.
A second and less explored one was of a royal guard ending up in the Human world in the 1920s and taking on the guise of a private investigator. getting into a noir style situation where he has to uncover and expose a Group of Gangsters (all Equestrian fugitives) led by a former Griffon who fled to the human world to escape custody and start a new exploitation scheme there all the while running into the much older Equestrian immigrants of Canterlot, the wizards and sorcerers from the first concept.
