Tips on managing art pack?

An Artist Who Rocks - 100+ images under their artist tag
Artist -

I have a vague idea of how to do this, but I wanted to run this by people before I get really involved.

I had an idea for a commercial art pack following a certain theme. I would supply the theme and some prompts, and then open for submissions where I retain the rights. Then the pack would go on sale, with me taking a small portion and the artists splitting the rest.

Will artists go for an opportunity like this? Would Patreon be the way to go - release it to all above a certain tier, or sell directly? I know some leaks are unavoidable, but art packs do get support nonetheless. Patreon also would give a larger funding base for the artists - but what do lower tiers get?

Any input appreciated. Thanks!

Art Packs aren’t normally on patreon. patreon is for monthly payments to artists. you wouldn’t want to ask people to do monthly payments

I’ve never managed an art pack myself, but I’ve contributed to a few of them, and I know several people who manage packs. Managing a pack is a time consuming and complicated process. You need to do a bunch of organization to ensure that you don’t have ten artists drawing the same character (unless that’s the specific theme), make sure everything is running on schedule, deal with people dropping out of the project, etc. Then you also gotta worry about advertising, promotion, handling and dispersing finances, etc.

Reputation also matters a lot too. If artists are contributing to the pack, they’re gonna expect compensation for it. Promising that you’ll give them a fair share after sales are complete won’t sway everyone - if they don’t know you, and never heard of you, how can they trust that you’ll actually give them the money?

Well, I’m an artist and I would like to participate in an art pack too! Let me know if I can join any.

About this, I think it is better to simplify, make things clear for everyone and what can happen if any mistakes occur.

I can’t give you tips on how to handle with all the stuff Joey said, but I can give you ideas to make it flow better I guess.

For example, you can debit your followers on Patreon ‘by post’, instead of ‘monthly’ (there is this option). If you’re gonna use Patreon for an art pack thing is better ‘by post’ as you can have any time you want to organize and talk to artists before you do a new post releasing an art pack on Patreon, and everybody supporting it will pay only once for each new release.
And for better tiers there could be extra artworks (like a ‘golden’ version or something), perhaps a t-shirt or something else in regards to it.

Also, about theme, and marketing, do you have anything in mind? Because this is complicated too, you can’t just throw a random thing and expect it works. You don’t wanna put lots of people to work in an unsuccessful project, believe me.
