I disagree, I believe several of the personalities fit rather well. Level-headedness and rationality are the enemies of horror, so it comes as no surprise Applejack had to be the first pony to die. Having both Applejack and Twilight there to calmly reason everyone out of danger defeats the premise of such psychological horror.

So I do not consider any of them to have been wildly out of character, even if Rarity comes out looking like a scumbag for totally in-character reasons.

There were like, two to three of the six vitally OOC in that story, from the very beginning, because it decided, without pretending for a nanosecond otherwise, that this Starlight would get the “philosophical” victory.

The OOC cases in question being how selfish and spineless Rarity and Fluttershy are in the trials, aside from Pinkie choosing to inflict pain on others, in addition to Applejack being a practical non-entity with three generic lines of dialogue who doesn’t scold others on their selfish choices, and instead died without even screaming… and that’s just on the Kindness (first) test.

It just wasn’t a good Saw flick. You massively lose out on the horror involved if the victims are significantly shittier people than they should be, without any justification whatsoever other than to contrive things along.

Someone is going to fail horribly at this friendship test.

Basically how I feel when I think I completed a test of a theory on breadboard. Will my blade fuse pop after hitting the power button on my bench power supply? Big shiny button.

Doing something like alcohol every day for 10 years can be worrysome. But the best test is when you try to stop for just a couple of days.

Look for all sorts of bad signs in an email. Any pictures that have a tacky or low res jpeg, you don’t recognize the sender, wanting you to “CLICK NOW” on the link, plebians pretending to be part of a company to get info out of you, any misspellings and poor grammar, any where they ask for money up front or have you fill out a loan (scammers will use your basic info to autofill online applications for loans where the loaner will then have you finish setting up your loan. If you fall for it and finish it then scammer will get the money for free, leaving you to pay back the full loan and any interest. I’ve seen this happen and it’s a very real tactic) or trick you into thinking you won a prize or wanting you to enter a random sweepstake are big signs of email scams. Also just look at the name of the sender too. If it’s a suspicious name or a bot name with lots of random numbers and letters then it’s a suspicious email. Another way to test this is to message the sender to see if they’re legit only as an alternative. If the message doesn’t go through, they never respond or they do respond with suspicious messaging then there you have it.

This also goes for suspicious text messages.

No offense taken. It’s not an idea that has been rigorously tested, but it does answer how it exists in such a universal manner throughout history and across cultures that had no form of interaction what-so-ever prior to the appearance of bigotry. However, I’d like to point out that your rebuttal included evidence of you being taught to resist becoming a bigot. Also, I wasn’t attempting to justify it, I was attempting to point out why it’s so prevalent and difficult to fight against. If it’s a purely social construct, than it can be gotten rid of in a way that it’ll never return, but if it’s linked to instincts it’ll always come back eventually. The benefit of this distinction is to say that it’ll require eternal vigilance to properly counter it rather than allowing society to think it’s gone for good and that they can then lower their guard.

I think in a compromise, (this is based on nothing but my own speculation) AJ’s concept evolved into Sprout and possibly Misty. The idea of Twilight as an Earth Pony stayed and clearly defined Sunny. I was shocked they actually announced the changes, I expected them to be too far in production.

Oh, I called them morons back then. I said the exact same thing I’m saying now. I might be able to dig up some of the comments I left on Derpibooru even. I made announcements about it on Facebook.

Specifically, I’m criticizing the notion of treating all things as 100% true or 100% false. And back then, I said the possibility vs probability indicated a lean towards “probably true”, but that doesn’t mean “confirmed”. There’s no point in a company confirming details in early development or planning stages, much less proposals.

The leaks we got from 2017 included private company emails that public eyes were definitely not supposed to see. Not only was I right about those leaks, I was 100% right that they were just planned ideas that could be changed.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the 2017 leaks were leaked to instigate proof just how bad an idea it originally was. Some idiot in marketing or development maybe assumed the direction they were going would be fine, but the backlash proved otherwise.
