I’ll reserve judgement on the looks until the camo comes off. There’s so much padding there I can’t really get a sense of what it looks like. (It’s supposed to be related to the Tuscon, so it’s apparently smaller than it looks here, too.) I think the business case is the same as the concept’s, though: people who want moderate truck capabilities on a semi-regular basis, but don’t want to deal with the size, cost, or fuel economy of a large truck. The sort of people who would have bought a quad-cab S-10 in the early 2000s.

I still think those are cool. Kind of silly, but cool, especially with the WRX drivetrain.

High school me thought the Maserati MC-12 was the sexiest car. It’s still fine. The MC-12 is basically a Ferrari Enzo built as a dedicated race car.

I get wanting a small truck since even midsize trucks are 9/10 of full size trucks for about the same price. I’m just not sure there is a wide market for it. We’ll have to see how large the bed is. A bed like that Subaru Baja isn’t much good for actual truck work.

Also, Chery wants to set foot in the US as the first ever Chinese mass-produced car maker. I’m quite excited - I heard Cherys are supposed to be quite solid.

Zotye also wants to sell cars there, beginning with their T600, but I can see this failing from a mile away. How long until VW sues them? A month? Less than that? It’ll be next in line for America’s biggest motoring failures. No one’s going to buy a shitty copied Touareg with a purdy old Mitsubishi engine.

They’re awesome trucks. Reliable and practical. Healthy engine size too

Aerodynamic car but it still has huge 1940s sealed beam headlight lol. Looks like the cybertruck has competition for odd shape. 3 wheel cars should be more popular…

Maserati has racing heritage going for them, at least.

The Chinese don’t even try to hide that they’re knockoff brands.

A lot of goods you can’t help but buy from China because there are practically no alternatives. With a vehicle you have a choice. I refuse to buy a Chinese vehicle.

Lynk & Co. is a brand created by Volvo for Geely, which they now own.

I’m not saying all Chinese cars are good, there are certainly some brands which I would never buy (Zotye, Great Wall, Landwind and Lifan) because of their massive copying controversies.
The ones that Chery made are minor at best. Yes, the QQ was a copy of the Matiz, and yeah, the first Tiggo had some RAV4 styling elements, but nowadays Chery builds cheap but reasonably reliable cars designed by an ex-Mazda designer. Looking at their website, they’ve got some interesting design ideas (ergonomically styled leather seats with patterned cloth inserts, grille styled after a bridge over a rippling lake)

Seems to be a good brand for people who just need a car that’ll take you from A to B.

I think the other issue is also principle. Like mage said, some things are impossible to avoid buying from China. But for as large and expensive a purchase as a car, I would never support China by buying one of their vehicles.
