Bay’s not directing? That’s a relief. Still, I’m with Weaver on this and say who asked for that? I’m pretty sure by the third film, people were getting tired of the Transformers films and they just kept making them because it still turned up a profit despite critics being hostile towards them. I know that the last film bored me to fucking death.

Also, Hasbro isn’t getting “bullied” by critics. They don’t care what they say or think, their films are still financially succesful regardless.

If then why most movies based on Hasbro brands were critically scorned?

Also, not all of them were financially successful and the Jem movie was one of them, and I agree that it deserved to fail, even if I am not fond of the Jem series. Not even after Atomic Betty was replaced on The Hub (b4 it’s now Discovery Family) after the end of the series.

Why do you care about money rather than public opinion?
Do you think it’s okay to make terrible movies because they’re just a toy/game company?

It’s because of the fact that Hasbro is a toy company first and foremost and not a movie studio. Their biggest criticism is that when they make these movies, it’s usually to promote their brand rather than put effort and quality into it. Now does this mean that the films themselves are shit? Considering that some of them become box office successes, not necessarily. Quality is subjective, so clearly there is some audience for these movies because they like them. The biggest example of this is MLP: The Movie.

Because of greed, that’s why. Movie studios and businesses are always finding ways to make some sort of profit, even if it means sacrificing their artistic integrity and ignoring public and critical backlash.
Like I said, quality is subjective, and Hasbro has proven that they can make something watchable.

  1. So Ralph Breaks the Internet is basically like a slightly better Emoji Movie?

  2. I don’t think I’ll be going to watch How the Grinch Turned into a Pussy Tsundere, and then Sold Out, Hard.

MLP doesn’t have nearly the marketing machine of Transformers. Also Transformers is “live action” (even though it’s half CG), so therefore it’s considered a more “valid” style of film than animation. That and there’s still the cultural stigma of liking anything perceived as too “girly” like MLP, so it will never receive nearly the same public praise or critical support. We still live in a very macho culture.

I just saw the film “Superfast”, and my God was it boring was all fuck. For a “parody” of The Fast & The Furious movie franchise made by the infamous Friedberg & Seltzer, it was a slog to sit through with overdrawn scenes that don’t even look like jokes but treat themselves as such. Also, these are grown adults acting immature just to get some cheap laughs, especially the impersonator for Brian, they should know better. They should’ve stuck with trying to cram every single modern at the time pop culture references they could find, cause at least it was their shtick and had “potential” for jokes. This was just a dull and miserable experience.

Is “Holmes & Watson” really that bad of a film? I’m hearing a lot of shit talk about that film and I’m morbidly curious to watch it to see how bad it is.

Let’s put it this way: Here are some comments from the critics on RT:

It’s so painfully unfunny we’re not sure it can legally be called a comedy.

Holmes & Watson is head-scratchingly unfunny. Filled to busting with talent and potential that, say in the hands of Aardman animation, might flourish as well as it should, but here it all falls disappointingly flat.

Puerile, imbecilic and imbued with the kind of casual 1970s sitcom homophobia that reads all male friendships as somehow suspect, this slack-jawed grossout comedy represents the nadir of Conan Doyle adaptations.
