Lil Nas X isn’t a one hit wonder anymore it seems cause his song “Panini” looks like it’s gonna stick around in the Top 20 for a while and it’s probably gonna reach Billboard’s Year End list for this year. I just wish that it was “Rodeo” in place of this one cause that song is better IMO.

And about this whole conversation about music genres and what certain songs and bands fall under, who cares really? It’s all a giant confusing mess considering that some gets influenced over others, some gets mixed with others, some artists can be multiple genres with their work and mix it up, it’s all just one massive headache. Who cares what umbrella term it falls under as long as the song sounds good to you and you like it? I listen to pretty much a fuck ton of songs spanning a lot of genres cause I like it for its content rather than what arbitrary term it’s classified under. It leads to interesting conversations sure, but also a lot of disagreements and infighting which is not why I became a music nerd in the first place.

Although on the subject of things I did not think would be classified as dadrock yet but are, yesterday I saw a guy who looked about twice my age wearing a Green Day shirt. That threw me for a loop a bit.

True enough. I’ve had people try to prove to me that My Chemical Romance wasn’t emo, or that Babymetal isn’t true metal, and it rather annoys me.

I do prefer rock over other genres, though.

@Broken Adam
@pixel
Even Korn and Slipknot are considered dadrock nowadays

“Dad rock” is one of those terms that annoys me. It feels like it’s only used to bash older music.

@Broken Adam
That’s because people call 30 year olds boomers these days.

Hell, I’m 23 and I’ve been called a boomer. Is 23 not considered “young” anymore? This keeps happening and it really annoys me.

Emos hate MCR because it changed the image of Emos from Weezer/Real Estate/Jimmy Eat World (Regular down to earth lads) to a mix of Punk/Goth fashion and Glam Metal fashion when thats the opposite of Emo culture which is anti artistic and is about “Down to earth personal lyrics”

It’s more like why you hate Imagine Dragons, Emos just hated how a band with some Emo influence but mostly Pop Punk became the face of Emo

MCR’s biggest influence were the Misfits and Queen, and the Misfits were kinda the type of Hardcore Punk band that DC Emo “rebelled” against

Imagine being a fan of Midwest or DC Emo then all of a sudden those get replaced by Pop Punk bands and their fans started calling themselves Emo without even knowing its meaning or origins

I dunno, that’s pretty ridiculous to me. MCR is still a good band. The Black Parade is one of the quintessential rock albums of the 2000s.

I don’t get how Weezer is considered emo–they’re more just pop rock–but whatever, dude.

(And also, Imagine Dragons aren’t rock and I’m going to argue that to the death.)

Most of them admit that it’s a good band , they just don’t want it to be the “Face”of Emo, just like how Metalheads Don’t want ACDC to be the face of Metal even if they love their music

Pinkerton Weezer was Emo, everything after it was pop rock trash, ironically it’s because of Their fans who hated it for touching on Subjects they weren’t comfortable with, and these same fans nowadays beg them to do another Pinkerton when Rivers is too traumatized by the backlash that happened to ever do it again

Honestly Imagine Dragons are basically Former Pop Rock guys who saw how Mumford and Sons were outselling even the biggest Rock Bands(Green Day, The Killers, Kings of Leon, Linkin Park, even Nickelback) from 2008 to 2012 and decided to jump in on the Indie Folk bandwagon but without becoming fully Folk

I’m starting to like Dave Matthews Band now, I really liked their instrumentation and lyrics by mellow alt rock standards. They could’ve been the 2000’s Goo Goo Dolls if they kept up at it.
