I love DMB. Their use of saxophone and violin gave them a really interesting sound compared to other alternative bands. (Granted, I’m from Charlottesville, the band of their origin, so I’m kind of required to like them.)

They sort of had an indie folk-rock sound for “It’s Time” and a few others, but by 2015, they’d basically gone full electropop.

The Pixies basically created Alt Rock, the amount of influential bands who cited them as an influence is huge

I’m already a fan of Goo Goo Dolls so their music got me hooked instantly because of how similar they sound but with the new additions like you said with the saxophone and violin.

I don’t really blame them for jumping on the Folk bandwagon , but yeah they declined heavily since 2015

Now that I think about it, why did Indie Folk explode in popularity anyway?

Indie music started blowing up at around 2011 and folk music whether it’d be genuine folk or more poppy folk have been a thing since roughly around the mid 2000’s so when both genres crossed together, the audience ate it up. This was why you had artists like Passenger, American Authors, Vance Joy, George Ezra, Milky Chance and Ingrid Michaelson get popular who were either pure folk or inside folk.

My fear is getting labeled as indie folk.

It’s interesting how Punk/Alternative Rock Grew as a reaction against Arena Rock/Hair Metal and Prog yet after it became more popular than those genres ut started adopting a lot of their philosophies , and the other way around was also happening with Pink Floyd’s Wall being very Punky, Tool, and even Hair Metal became popular because Bands didn’t want to be seen as Vanilla like Journey and took Influence from the New York Dolls who many argue were Punk
 
So we go from the Sex Pistols constantly dissing Pink Floyd and The Ramones being booed by Aerosmith fans into these two Rock Styles mixing

Justin Timberlake: Has a mega succesful solo career

It’s interesting how Non English songs (Latin Hindu and Korean) are becoming more and more the majority of Most viewed vids on youtube this year
 
Might be a reason why American pop stars are abandoning Electropop/pop Rock/r&b in favour of Latin Dancehall

I never understood the “Power Metal is cheesy” Criticism as if other types of Metal aren’t equally as cheesy

Its so fucking weird how Rock and Rap switched places in how “Self serious” they are.
 
Compare how All the Neon haired Emo Rappers are embraced by the Hip Hop Community to how the BvB were declared the biggest cancer on earth by Rock fans for their Motley Crue lite looks
 
I blame this on Rock Critics who all of a sudden decided that Rock should be completely self serious High brow art in the 2000’s

These critics are even trying to force their ways on Pop and Rap, by reviewing them based on shit that was never meant to be relevant for those genres, just because a Pop song doesn’t talk about feminism or a Rap isn’t about Interracial relationships that doesn’t mean they are shit, but the likes of Pitchfork RYM and their ilk seem to think that all music should have a stick up their ass and take themselves ultra seriously and be about social issues
