The old EU was a rat’s nest of convoluted continuity. There were good ideas that came from it, but overall, it was a mess. Certain characters that were alive in one story died in another or were older somehow, the timeline didn’t add up in some areas, etc. Putting it out of its misery was the right call.
Besides, adapting the old EU was a lose-lose. Even if they did adapt old EU novels/stories, those same fans would complain about liberties taken with the source material. And mainstream audiences who aren’t in the know would be lost.

Yep, there were good things too like Thrawn and Kreia, but you can cherry pick those out and leave the trash behind, and it’s not lie the old canon vanished, all the stuff still exists,
