this is a cheap literary tactic designed to create faux depth, having a darkest hour is meant to make the payoff more rewarding,

Not every novel and comic has to end with either a lawful good or neutral good type of ending.

I’m struggling with how to have a semi-positive ending for something I’m writing… Not that I don’t want a semi-positive ending, but it’s hard to figure out.

It really is.

For some context, someone from Equestria goes to EQG world, someone in EQG world falls for him, the first person he ever truly liked, lots of bonding, etc, but he has to go back to the pony world and can’t stay forever, also magic stuff, but it makes him sad. So i’m trying to think of a way for them to still find ways to communicate in the end without being contrived, lazy, or cheatsy.

In case Star Wars sequels, Rey as Mary Sue topic. No she is not.
Why you would need to compare her with actual Mary Sue character from recent sci fi.
Michael Burnham from ST Discovery is mary sue.
Rey is just main character (may not necessary as good done as she should be) in movie saga centered about chosen one hero, all aspect of her character are required, even her possible family connection to other characters was something what fans actually want and its typical thing for SW anyway. Meanwhile Burnham is chosen one hero who is center of plot and even setting of new show in franchise what don’t do chosen one character (Sisco was technically one but not in this sense, it never overshadows entire DS9) or even main character at all being more of ensemble shows with focus more equal on crew (or even beyond crew like in DS9). Also Burhman is previously unheard off adoptive daugher of Sarek and sister of Spock, human raised as Vulcan and even keeping up with or exeding other Vulcans in their fields, this scream more fanfic character than character being girl and following some of Luke footsteps.Rey despite her status still gives more room for other character to breathe, they can have their own stories, actions and rey is not required to solve everything while also everyboy around her is sucked out of competence unlike Burham. In short Rey doing her job as main character of Star Wars story while Burnham warps Star Trek story around herself.

The field holler has origins in the music of West Africa, where the majority of African slaves in America originated from. The historian Sylviane Diouf and ethnomusicologist Gerhard Kubik also identify Islamic music as an influence.[8] Diouf notes a striking resemblance between the Islamic call to prayer (originating from Bilal ibn Rabah, an Abyssinian African Muslim in the early 7th century) and 19th-century field holler music, noting that both have similar lyrics praising God, melody, note changes, “words that seem to quiver and shake” in the vocal chords, dramatic changes in musical scales, and nasal intonation. She attributes the origins of field holler music to African Muslim slaves who accounted for an estimated 30% of African slaves in America. According to Kubik, “the vocal style of many blues singers using melisma, wavy intonation, and so forth is a heritage of that large region of West Africa that had been in contact with the Arabic-Islamic world of the Maghreb since the seventh and eighth centuries.”[8]
