Corrupter of the pure
Vent:
You know what I’m fucking tired of? People that believe if you push people beyond what they can realistically handle that the person will magically get amazing or such.

If you’re one of those assholes that push people to the point they’re having mental breakdowns fuck you, just fuck you.

Problem with this mentality in a nutshell using a metaphor, “hey if I break this person’s legs that means they can now win the olympics cause those broken legs will make them run faster”
Albus Fahrenheits

@uc9
Pushing people to their limit is a gamble of sorts. “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” As they say.

Also,
Unpopular opinion: I think there should be mandatory physical fitness laws.

From a logical standard point, that sounds good. No more people with obesity or health problems in general.

From a SJW standard point, you are a horrible creature for wanting to change people for the good.

From a human standard point, it “could” be. But dunno if it “should” be. I mean, “fatness” is not an all round issue. Heh, round.

There’s one thing of pushing what you can do, there’s another thing of pushing someone off the cliff. It’s a hard balance, but that’s why we have coaches and trainers and such to maintain that balance.

It’s something I struggle with in art. I could do what I’m comfortable with or easier stuff, but then I don’t learn anything, but if I try too advanced stuff, I just don’t have the experience or know how to even comprehend it at all. Which is why I’m kinda staying away from better shading until i learn anatomy and poses better (but mostly poses, natural anatomy I think comes only with time).

I’m told I need to practice everyday, and yeah I should. It would help. But depression makes it difficult ontop of busy with school and life stuff. I really wish I could just be energetic all day and had time so I had the capacity to actually push myself to do more.

I sent someone a WiP I had, they pretty much showed what was wrong… and it wasnt as good as i thought. Like I enjoyed drawing it and thought it was good, but upon his review (which wasnt even entirely negative) i felt like i completely missed the mark and that maybe I should start the process of thought all over again. But, I can’t. I’m too stubborn to just abandon my wants in favor of mastery, might be unhealthy, but I rather be a crap artist who draw’s what he likes and gets better gradually rather than an artist who draws only for mastery and gets no creative freedom out of it.

On a more extreme note. ROTC should be mandatory for all college students. Well, at least for able-bodied males. That way more people will become disciplined and orderly.

You’re kinda being fascist. Not joking or engaging in hyperbole, but you kinda are.

Mandatory fitness standards and compulsory military service imply that the citizens exist to serve the state, rather than the other way around. More than that, it reduces them to property, to cattle who’s lives are decided by people who neither know or care about them.

I’ve come to the conclusion that it was intentional. Really trying to get that B-movie flare.

At least Neal Patrick Harrison was good, and Jake Busey wasn’t too bad, if a little hooky.

It was very intentional. The source material was fascist propoganda, i remember a story of how the director was like “fuck it” and did his own thing after trying to read the book.

Conscription implies there are need of servicemen to help combat a threat. There are no immediate threats, not even ISIS is there yet(in terms of invading homeland or overpowering our millitary power, which is not happening), and there are plenty serving, military in the US is bloated enough we don’t need more.

Forcing people to get in shape I don’t think will actually do anything. I mean, ever seen what winners of the Biggest Loser look like a few months after? Shit doesn’t work. Either you want to lose weight or you don’t.

The data would agree. Typically, forcing people to do things, especially from a position that can be seen as condescending (i.e. we’re forcing you to do this because I say it’s good for you) tends to have the opposite response. People forced into situations or denied freedoms, often reassert them more forcefully.

One thing I learned was effective was instead of telling someone to do something, you show them what they’re doing wrong and let them make their own observation. A parenting thing. Showing a kid what he did wrong and going over with him on why it’s bad, bit by bit, and making sure he knows it was his own fault by his own conclusion.

I can’t remember it exactly, but I think it was a Tumblr post about a kid lodged peanut butter in a playstation, and the mother went over with how the the system will not work anymore, because of the peanut butter. He never did that or much of any destructive behavior after that. That’s recalling from memory, but it’s something like that.

Another example? Stubborn smoker? show them what happens to their lungs.

Just as it is human nature to resist, it is human nature to impose. We’re communal, hierarchical animals. I mean look at our political structure, even anarchy ultimately coalesces into a structured state. We shook off nobles only to raise our own politicians up to those same levels. Both parties like to yell at the other for trying to “impose” their will, while simultaneously doing the same thing.

There’s been this one experiment that’s been repeated a few times. It shows that when left to our own devices, we naturally form hierarchical groupings.

There are times that I think Loki was right. For some people, the natural position is to kneel.

@Sono

The evidence swings a little. Whats fully known is that attacking a persons attitude head-on only leads to them strengthening it.

Problem is smoking is a physical and mental addiction. People might really, really want to quit but they won’t because they are in fact very much addicted.

I think that works better as a deterrent than as a method to get people to quit smoking, though knowledge of the health ramifications can serve as a motivator.

So here’s something incredibly petty that just bugs the shit out of me. I hate it when people try to pronounce a place’s name as if they’re actually from there, you know, imitating the accent.

An example is people pronouncing New Orleans as Nawlans when they are not from New Orleans.

It feels really stupid and condescending, talk like where you’re actually from instead of imitating an accent for a single word. It wouldn’t bug me if it was more than the one word, a fake accent is silly and possibly kind of a shitty thing to do but it doesn’t irritate me.

Like I said, petty as hell, but its still something that annoys me.
Twisty

i really really fucking hate it when people try to do everything to separate genres.

people who think rock and rap, or punk and electronic music are COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY DIFFERENT, they have nothing in common, dont share any themes, or sounds so they must be all segregated cause blah blah blah.

i hate that mentallity.

Lingering Wyvern
I feel really bad when I hear about people missing dead loved ones.

Because I can’t fathom, right now, anyone who I just couldn’t live without, or miss intensely if they were to disappear forever.

Anyone who should be a good candidate just gives me untold amounts of grief, far too much to put down to simple stupidity and not outright maliciousness.

Which in turn shuts down any possibility of them changing for the better, especially since when they’re so assured they never do anything wrong, and never listen to me, no matter how I try to tell them. Not helping that after every foolish attempt ends with me thinking putting a gun to my own head would be preferable to trying again.

Being clinically depressed in an environment like this is hell really sucks.
