I like the holidays but I hate the rampant kitsch and consumerism around it.  
But I don’t watch TV myself so I don’t see much of it.

I quite like it. But I prefer vodka and cranberry.
 
Though, scotch and whiskey are my preferred libations.

Wait! I thought of something. What if in the real world we had technology like the level seen in Star Trek. Food production, fuel/energy supply etc issues universally solved. Then communism might work. I mean if I’m not mistaken they reached a point where working for currency unto itself is no longer feasible.

That’s not so much communism as it is the complete upending of supply and demand. It isn’t that “everyone is working for a common goal” as it is “no one has to work anymore”.

Communism on paper is about “means of production” but it always got into power by promising a good life for people. Basically populism 101.

Whenever real marxists make it they are basically jacking themselves off.
 
Common mistake though. Rodenberry was basically a marxist of some kind himself.  
So of course his view of the future reflects that

Eh, 30mil isn’t that much. Hell, 1mil isn’t that much really. All of my holdings, business and net worth is about 2mil. Most of that is tied up in a business though.
