In fact, Desktop Ponies was the reason I got involved in the FiM community because I was a pixel artist and quickly got into the sprites of DP and quickly went to updating a few ponies that were already in the program and making a few of my own.

It wasn’t like that back on 2011, when so many wonderful fanprojects were being cooked there by all kind of great fanartists.  
But of course, whenever people gathers to create something new, there’s always that kind of people who smells another free share of attention and comes along to try making everything all about themselves and getting a free ride, and argh.
 
Seriously, argh. They are everywhere, there’s no escape from them.

2011 Ponychan was a great place to be. I got my first custom plushie there, I learned about the wonders of vector art, and I learned so much.

“Ponychan”? Was that like the MySpace or the AOL of the brony fandom?

Yes, it was a hugbox, but the fanprojects board was a great site, frequented by all kinds of talented people.

Do you remember when our project threads were constantly invaded by people trying to use us as a their personal free source of original pixel art for their RPG Maker projects?

I remember a very persistent guy who was constantly trying to plug his RPG (Light and Darkness, if I remember correctly) on every project thread to fish for free helpers. Whenever someone asked him how that thing could be called a pony-based RPG when it only used the default RPGMaker graphics, sounds and interfase, the guy had a meltdown and yelled “THEY ARE PLACEHOLDERS!”
 
I wonder if the guy ever did anything on his own.

Well, I had a lot of fun there and I got to know and befriend several great and talented people.
 
One thing I always will treasure about working on Desktop Ponies was that the group was so polite and everyone always got along so well. Not a single discussion, nobody arguing, nobody trying to play the special snowflake card or trying to be the center of attention. Such a thing is very rare on groups, and even rarer on the internet.  
All of our problems came from outside the group, so yeah, good times.

Well, our Deviantart group has a nice wall of shame with names and accounts of people who kept stealing from us no matter how many times we asked them to stop. They yelled, cried and tried to raise revenge raids against us for “ruining their reputation” and threatened us with reporting us to Deviantart’s staff for being so mean, immoral and bullying little kids or disabled people.
 
Of course, they always omited the part about them stealing from us in the first place, because of course the special snowflakes would avoid telling everyone about the part that makes them look bad. Some times I’ve seen them in this community to still try to submit stolen things as their own, because of course they would never learn or much less give up.

Something I learned from life is that people who claim that they are special is just to make people feel sad about them and at the same time to fuck with you so people look at you as the villain of the drama.

Well, back then I tried embedding a little message with my internet nickname and the animation’s data of creation, but it triggered false positives among many antivirus that believed it was malicious code so I gave up on that idea.  
Plus, no amount of watermarks or signatures have ever stopped a special snowflake from stealing, because they always think of themselves as clever people who will never be caught, or they simply cannot see anything wrong about stealing from others and lying to everyone as long it brings them the attention and praise they crave so much.

At this point, part of me wants to delete those old Eddsworld stamps that got so popular. I’m not even a fan of Eddsworld anymore.

You always can make a Tumblr account and slowly promote it around until you get enough followers to bring up things like a donation drive or what have you, I suppose.

I only have like 52 followers.
