Which is why I’m working on tech skills, enough to be competent. Competition is kinda a funny thing; If the best guy isn’t available–they’ll take anyone who is available. That’ just it, really.
Currently, for employment, ppl want technical skills than style–because most likely you’ll be working with someone else’s design so you’ll be doing 80% of the boring but crucial work like lining, coloring, rendering etc, depending on your skill.
What’s his name–Vince Coletta, who lined Jack Kirby’s comics, wasn’t THE BEST line artists out there, but he was always available, and he’s very competent, very professional.
Basically: if you good at doing what ppl don’t like doing, YOU WILL GET JOB purely because no one else is stepping up.
