How do you find artists to commission?

I’m trying to find one, but those whose art I like don’t take any commissions, have 0 slots or I can’t find their comission sheet.

There must be a better way. Am I missing something?

Sometimes you just have to be patient. I waited for almost six years for a commission slot to open up, and by the time it did I was already on talking terms with the artist enough that it went fast and easy.

My idea was to save time and give the community back a little. I’ll check the couple biggest pony discords, but if I can’t find anything it’s not worth the hassle

But what kind of Art you need??

I usually find artists a few ways, sometimes I just randomly find them on social media timelines or I get referred them. I most commonly find artists by ArtFight, YCH.Art, YCH Commishes & Booru sites.

I build loyalty to specific artists and wait until they’re open for commissions. I don’t want to spend my money on random artists. Instead, I want to pay the artists I trust the quality of at least 20 dollars per hour for their fine-tuned special talent. But that’s only in theory, as I haven’t purchased art or OCs for years.

I dont think its good idea to wait years for an open slot. Sure, you can pick some popular artist or find an artstyle that you like and give it a try. If you arent sure ask for sketch before paying. But it depends what would you like. Many popular artist only draws 1-2 characters for high price. If you want group pictures or comics you need something else, maybe with compromises. Look around here, or on deviantart and check the profile info, check the gallery because the first few arts dont tell what the artist can or will make. Or check the art here and look up the deviantart link too.
If you find a less known artist, you can commission your art you want and get it soon.

My method would be:
1 good artstyle, who made it?
2 check gallery
3 check profile info and/or commission info
4 send a message

btw you can always check the artist that made the arts so you have a bigger picture who draws what and can look for them

I often request some unusual things, so I like to watch for art styles I like, or artists that have drawn what I’m into more than once.

There’s never any harm with inquiring if you feel this artist matches what you’re wanting, but be aware response times in messaging thru DM’s here can take days or weeks to get a response, due to only visual notifications. ^^”
