A thought occurred to me. Why would ponified characters keep their original universe names? Why not mix it up, name them as they’d be named in MLP-land?

To help you out:

John Sheridan - Bomb Voyage
Kuwabara Kazuma - Mulberry Love
Akemi Homura - Shotclock
Odysseus - Seasmarts
Neal Caffrey - Fingerpaints

Kinda a cool idea, I figured. XD
Elric of Melnipony

I didn’t think I could do much with the Elric saga, but after I came up with my user name, I decided that Melnipony was populated entirely by unicorns, the Young Kingdoms were primarily earth ponies with a few unicorns here and there (especially in Pan Tang), and the pegasi, of course, would be the Winged People of Myyrrhn.

Not that anyone else around here has read any of these books, but it amuses me…

The alicorns would be the Lords of Law and the Lords of Chaos. Think of the Vorlons and Shadows, only more powerful and without a cease-fire between them. I mean, yeah, they preferred to work through mortals, but they were perfectly willing to clash directly if the opportunity came up.

I suppose Discord could be one of the Lords of Chaos, but he would be minor league compared to Elric’s patron god/demon Arioch. And I did once make (again, for my own amusement) an alicorn version of one description of Arioch using the Pony Creator. (Chaos Lords tend to change their appearance a lot.)

As you may have guessed, Elric the Technomage was named after Michael Moorcock’s Elric.

@Elric of Melnipony
So basically they acted through proxies less out of necessity and more out of convenience. Sweet! (Also, I’m guessing from Elric’s affiliation that the forces or Order were a bit less…ambiguous about their antagonism than the Vorlons? XD)

I kind of figure in this instance that Discord would kind of be an emissary, the Constable to Arioch’s Dauphin, as it were, and as such works to keep Order from getting too uppity with the proxies.

Is that where his classic “quick to anger” line came from as well, or was that LOTR? (Then again, old school fantasy is all over B5, lol.)
Elric of Melnipony

The “quick to anger” line is all Gandalf.

In the Elric books (and several related ones) the forces of Law are presented as the good guys and the forces of Chaos are shown to be the bad guys, for the most part. But an important concept that comes up again and again is the need for balance between them. (Sheridan figured that out.) The Cosmic Balance can’t be allowed to swing too far in either direction.

In some of Michael Moorcock’s other books, we’re shown that the two sides really are other than (or outside of) good and evil, which is why D&D represents alignments on more than one axis. In one story, wounded and seemingly killed gods from both sides are seen after a huge battle and are described as resembling each other so closely that you really can’t tell who is who…
