There are many reasons to put a character you love and admire through horrible scenarios. Sometimes even to emulate horrors you have experienced in real life so you can connect with them even more. I do it a lot...
That said I still have a hard time with White Kitten's tastes for some reason. I don't know *why* in particular, there's just something about the way they like their dialogue written that strikes me the wrong way.
