It doesn't really kick in until you get something like an AppleTV or something like that - and even then not until you get to some really insane moment in the movie. It seems to show up a lot on Marvel movies, and on the Lord Of The Rings - stuff like that.
Weirdly, the original Superman movie is quite good at blowing out speakers with its soundtrack - and movies like the original Dune movie, thinks like that. Movies where they really invested in the orchestration and pushed it right to the edge of what the compression scheme could eat.
And, yes: I've gone through two stereos with the Lord of The Rings movies. There's something in the "Battle of the Pelennor Fields that just pushes the sound to 12.":https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxf1RIOCyuE. Maybe it's too many French Horns or something.
