I can understand that completely, it’s a preferred taste I don’t expect everyone to like the loud and violent Grindcore stuff, nor the slower and atmospheric Post-Metal stuff. Though the only things that I can say for someone to try out are Oceanic by Isis since that was the first album with all growling that I had liked, or some of Opeth’s stuff since they’re a Death Metal band that doesn’t always growl throughout their entire song.

Shit, how’d I miss a metal thread? You’d be hard pressed to find a genre I don’t like. The scream-o, some of the more extrema death and black metal, and core-metal are pretty much the only ones I won’t listen to.

Folk ,Power-Metal, and Melodic are my main interest. Tyr, Skyclad, Korpiklaani, Falconer, Cryonic Temple, Blind Guardian, Symphony X, Nightwish, Epica, Hammerfall, and a few others.

A misc list of other since I don’t feel like doing a genre breakdown. Anvil, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath including Ozzy and Dio on their solo careers, Rainbow, Queensryche (Rainy Night makes me cry), Man’o’war, Disturbed, Rhapsody, DragonForce (don’t laugh)…That’s just to name a few.

The Cumshots are a good band to check out. they have a death metal flavor but they subvert it by adding a rock and roll groove and the growls are coherent enough to understand but still add aggression. they also balance out between growls and clean vocals.

I’ve always wondered.
I listen to Nightwish, blind guardian, within temptation, disturbed and avengers sevenfold.

Are these actually considered metal?

I think they are…well, I’m not a fan of Within Temptation for reasons, and Avenge I can take or leave.

Shit, as one of the few people who listened to Blind Guardian before Robot unicorn attack I can safety say they rock.

blind guardian is old school metal. Nightwish and Within Temptation I would group up in its own genre along with Lacuna Coil and Epica. Disturbed and A7X are just radio friendly stuff.

I forgot to add that I also refuse to listen to “christian metal”. I’m of the mind that such a thing should be an oxymoron.

Shit, it isn’t about the religion, I just honestly don’t think it belongs in metal, for both ways. It just doesn’t seem like it mixes, some things just don’t go together….

Granted, I listen to some…stuff that most christians wouldn’t like.

…yeah, ‘cause there’s nothing less metal than singing about angels, demons, acts of God, the crucifixion, the many battles in the Bible, possibly the nephilim, etc.

To put it simply, the shoe can be on the other foot. I listen to Pagan music, singing about my gods and my beliefs, I don’t expect Christians to like it.

I don’t feel like listen to song’s about Jesus just as they wouldn’t want me to sing about the Mother Goddess.

I’m quite fond of both Metallica and Megadeth (the latter moreso) I’ve been listening to classic and new wave revival metal-

White Wizzard-Fight to the Death
love the vocalist
Hiemdall-Lord of the Sky
the quality of that is really crappy…also they’re Italian so the guy can sound really strange at times. That opening just blows me away every time.
“Tokyo Blade - Warrior of the Rising Sun”:www.youtube.com/watch?v=USaO9tEMm0c
From 1984…I love this song way more than I should

It’s just pure joyous metal - that is always tends to be positive and about just feeling or about something awesome as opposed to self-loathing and grunting into a microphone.

A long time favorite band of mine is and has always been Tool. Those hypnotic rhytems, complex emotive music and beautifully intense vocals from Maynard.
Lateralus

I also love a lot of what GWAR has made for the pure ridiculousness and deceptively good music and higher-end production. It’s just funny, dumb, and nice and heavy.
Tormentor

and you can never really go wrong with Dio.
“Overlove”:www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-cqeXK5xFY

The Sword is pretty awesome new riff-heavy Sabbath-style stuff, got there first 3 albums on my ipod.
Iron Swan

…so, if someone were to, say, compose a powermetal hymn, it would instantly be gross? Personally I always thought it would fit perfectly.

I get not wanting to be preached at, but that doesn’t mean a guy can’t make a legit, even profound artistic controbution that still reflect’s a Christian perspective, even in a genre like metal.

EDIT: nevermind, you posted while I was typing.

Yea, like I said it’s personal taste. I personally don’t think it makes good metal, but I’m not (for ironies sake) god so my opinion isn’t law.
