The Alcohol Thread (Possible NSFW)

I’m about to imbibe the greatest combination of alcohol that exists.
 
 
The Boiler Maker. A pint of fine ale or stout, with a shot or two of whiskey in it.

Next time I go to a bar, I’ll ask if they have one of those. If not, there’s always Wyoming, Colorado, or Nevada.

I went to a new store today to get something good enough to sip. I couldn’t find any of the aged rums I’ve been seeking but I did get some applejack and blackberry moonshine. The applejack I bought on a whim. The moonshine I bought because I like the cherry and wanted to try another flavor. Midnight Moon moonshine isn’t like those clear flavored vodkas. You can tell it’s authentic flavor because they put the fruit right in the jar.
 
The blackberry moonshine is not as sweet as the cherry but that’s all right. It does indeed taste like blackberries and goes down as smooth as the cherry. I like it well enough neat and expect it would be good mixed with lemonade.
 
The applejack smells like hard cider. The apple flavor is not what I’d call rich but it’s present and there is a little caramel too. The finish is hot and dry. Not bad though I think I’ll save the applejack for autumn and add it to mulled cider.

I wanna drink and hump now.

I thought of resuming hobby brewing again. Thing is, hops, quality yeast (you do have to be selective) and malt powder are surprisingly not as cheap as one would hope. It’s not that cost effective over just buying a six pack in some cases.

If the Theocratic People’s Republic of Utah were more alcohol-friendly, I’d probably open up a winery or make moonshine and call it “Happy Valley Wines/Moonshine”…because my area is sometimes called “Happy Valley.” My late paternal grandfather had several grapevines on his property and he’d work on them quite a bit until his passing…of course they were most likely eating grapes instead of wine grapes.

Yeah, it’s often never good to skimp on quality ingredients or you’d never make a quality product.
 
Speaking of which, is there some kind of hobby brewing store in the SLC? NVM. There’s the Beer Nut and Salt City Brew Supply in SLC and Ogden City Brewing Supply in Ogden and nothing in Provo (not surprising, LOL.)

I’m familiar with Salt City Brew, yes. Though some stuff you can order on Amazon etc if I remember.

I’ve tried homebrewing three times and of those three times the results were only acceptable once. Brewing beer is about a six hour process from start to primary fermentation and the whole time you have to extremely meticulous about sanitation because the slightest contamination will ruin the wort. That reminds me, I have a couple boxes of failed beer I need to pour out. Hopefully they won’t erupt like geysers when opened like my second batch did.

The legal age for drinking in Canada is 18.

Most beers taste like Listerine to me for some reason.

Yes, many alcoholic drinks are bitter. There are people out there who actually prefer bitter beers and whatnot.
 
If you’re looking for something sweet, try Mike’s Hard Lemonade or Henry’s Hard Soda…assuming they’re available in Canada.

It’s a multicultural country. Just because Muslims aren’t allowed to drink it, doesn’t mean it’s illegal. It’s hard to find though but it is possible to buy it legally.
 
Just don’t expect bars and stuff.

The age restrictions is under the pretense that you are old enough to be responsible for your actions if you ever become drunk. If a child drinks alcohol and smashes a car, then the adult caretaker is blamed instead, despite either not being there or is unable to halt it.
 
You are the owner of your actions. Everything you do and its consequences relate to you. That’s why there’s an age restriction. Because kids aren’t responsible.

Alcohol is butt expensive here, taxed to hell. And the government controls the distribution.
