Does this sound sufficiently modern but also Golden age, a small time talent agent buys a fancy new glass eye that over time he learns is Odin’s missing eye after he uses it’s powers to solve a murder of one of his Clients?

Various mythologies provide most of his actual Rouges gallery since average humans aren’t up to taking him on, as for the Norse pantheon in particular his “feeling” like an Aesir makes him a target for the Fire Gintess Free,

are there classic origin stories that if you do today would be savagely mocked because it’s stupid NOW (but ok then)?

Idea for a Event series “Who punishes the Punisher?” which features Frank killing an ex con who happened to be good friends with almost the entire Super Villain Community of New York, Frank is now on the run from the Likes of Scorpion and Sandman,

Just some random dude who was really agreeable and would listen to your story and offer a sympathetic ear, part of the idea is for it to not even register with Castle why suddenly the Rhino is demolishing his apartment building or why Mystero is playing holograms of his family’s murder all over the place, it wouldn’t be until the very end when we find out it was a random person from the shooting at the beginning that we would be told about the guy, when Dare Devil convinces them not to kill him because it’s not what their friend who wanted to go strait more then anything would have wanted,

I think the randomness is required for the message that all those people castle kills had a story that he chose to end,

writer matt fraction once wrote how punisher will deal with supervillains in an article in wizard magazine. his solution for dr. doom was to do terror attacks on latveria so that his rep as a leader will go down and will be enough as a distraction to go for the kill.

I’m more concerned about the notion frank will go to that length just to eliminate dr. doom.
 
It’ near impossible that the attacks won’t take out an innocent after all (even if he planned it to happen that no one will die, the resulting chaos would probably kill a civilian or two from the panicking).
