Most people will agree that violent media doesn’t make people violent.

I think violent media is cool, but in reality I have a large reverence for human life, even the life of my enemies.

Shooting people in a game, and shooting people in real life are far different actions that have far different mindsets. Shooting something in a game never requires a second thought, because there is no consequences or victim, shooting people in real life requires a lot of complex thought and consequences. Not to mention people playing a game, and those killing real people have far different motivations.

That is exactly what I am saying. Fictional media doesn’t make people wanna do irl things. It really saddens me that the people in this discussion are equating people into underage art to actual pedos and child abusers are the same people who say that violent video games don’t make people want to shoot places up, because that’s not how minds work.

You know what’s an even more urgent red flag? Taking advantage of access to the explicit but legally inactionable contents of someone’s private account by posting them to the public so that minors can access them. In other words, giving minors back door access to inappropriate shit that the maker did what they could to keep it to themselves.

I’m not 100% against it because there’s the book and film called Lolita, and I’d like to watch it because it was directed by Kubrick. One thing I love about Kubrick is that he finds subtle ways to talk about issues, like technology VS humanity, violence in society, marriage issues, the impact of war in our lives, etc. And, in the case of Lolita, it’s this sexual attraction to an underaged person.

If the film ends up being subtle, then yes, I think you can use art to communicate these ideas. That’s the whole definition of art. That said, more often than not, many anime shows and mangas have loli characters who are dressed in a suggestive way as either cheap shock value or fanservice. In fact, that’s kinda what happened in a Halo fangame.

And no one seems to care about that.

I modded my Doom game to have way more gore, blood and screaming. I even downloaded the level data the Columbine shooters made, and the one where you kill racists characters of black people and jews. It does not make me want to kill anyone, and i’m definitely not racist.

By definition lolicon is probably pedophelic, I wouldn’t be surprised if the DSM had some rubber science, but calling the person themselves a pedophile carries far deeper implications.

Not liking lolicon is fine, but drawings are just thoughts. At least it’s not like that movie Cuties with real kids sexualizing themselves.

Well, I was the only one defending it, so I’m sorry but it felt like you were.
My point is, I don’t think people who like it are inherently pedophiiac. It makes you look suspect, sure, but if you’re already someone who’s attracted to minors, then yeah.

By the way, about the loli characters. We’re talking about character design made in Japan.

Since the japanese designs are fantastic, wouldn’t make sense to ask them to go nuts in creativity and offer crazy and unique designs? Look at the From Software games. Look at Ghibli. Look at Angel’s Egg. Look at Cowboy Bebop. Look at Berserk. Look at the Monster Hunter franchise. Look at the Fumito Ueda games. I’m pretty sure japanese designers and artists can do something more valuable and more creative than an underaged person who wears suggestive bikini but “it’s ok because she’s 10000 years old”.

For the same reason why every movie from Hollywood and every western-made AAA game made in the last decade plus feels extremely samey- the entertainment industry as a whole is very risk-averse, so they typically stick to formulae that have been proven to work. While deviating from the norm can result in a surprise runaway success, the risk/reward ratio is slanted too far against them in their eyes for them to seriously consider it.

Speaking of risks, I wish the Bury Your Gays trope wouldn’t exist.

It not only ruined LGBT rep (with Voltron and Invincible) but also makes me think it will prevent writers from taking risks when it comes to LGBT characters and instead play it safe by not killing them off.
