Oh undoubtedly. Which would be deserved there.

Whatever conglomeration of forces made it unprofitable for anything but a franchise movie to be the big blockbusters were the worst thing to happen to Hollywood since they fell apart in the 60s or ignored abusers of power since uh…before they existed.

Star Trek is better than Star Wars because there’s no religious bullshit and much less war.

So according to you, Star Wars is an allegory to Christianity? And Lucas used a lot of imagery and ideas from things, not just religion. That’s like saying Pokemon is bad because Arceus is a reference to God.

When it comes to the war aspect Star Wars has a different focus. If we are talking about the original trilogy, Star Wars was less about worldbuilding than an character based adventure. It’s apples to oranges.

And while not explicitly just Christian as it had some Buddhist themes and Joseph Campbell’s book’s influence, it is definitely more spiritual. But I don’t think there is anything wrong with creating a world where those things are the focus. Some people like the mystical presence that can be found in fantasy. And I think the force can give a chance to explore characters more and to provide a cool world.

Not everyone wants a pure sci fi world just as not everyone wants a mystical world.

I mean, mechanically Star Wars is a fantasy world with a sci-fi skin. The Force is just their mana, and you are born with magic powers instead of able to gain them through research.

In fact I have a theory that Star Wars made fantasy become popular. In the 60s and 70s Sci fi was all the rage. And by giving science fantasy movie, it prepared for people pure fantasy movies in the 80s like those Labyrinth.

Honestly, people with a hateboner for religion are worst than bible-thumpers. At least it’s fun to give the latter aneurysms when I point out the contradictions between their actions/beliefs and what’s in the book they swear by.

It depends on which series you’re talking about, I guess.

As far as I’m concerned, the last 20 minutes of DS9 (and all the Ki When stuff) were all happening in Dukat’s head as he sat in a Dominion prison on Cardasia Prime.

Tellingly, DS9 didn’t have any involvement from Roddenberry (he died before it was conceptualized), and Roddy was noted for his distaste towards religion (I believe he famously vetoed NBC’s attempts to insert Christian characters into TOS).

Personally, I have little desire for any Star Trek works that don’t have Roddy’s fingerprints. At this point CBS/Paramount are just trying to make it Star Wars 2.0 and are giving middle fingers to everyone critical of that.

What’s weird about the Bajoran religion is that they referred to their gods as “The Prophets.” Aren’t prophets usually messengers for the gods and not the gods themselves?

Ireland is not culturally aligned with the West because the West was all-in on England’s attempt to outbreed the Irish out of existence.

But what makes Ireland culturally not western?

Having religious themes and references is far from the only difference in Star Wars and Star Trek. I honestly starting to doubt you even watched Star Wars and think it’s just the bible in space at this point. And Honestly, religious people sci-fi isn’t out-of-place like you think it is. Mass Effect has both Ashley (a straight up christian) and Dr. Suvi Anwar (an agnosticism scientist), and they fit in just fine.

Claiming that every aspect of religion is inherently bad just muddies the water for debates about the real issues of religion.

Claiming it’s all bad just alienates people, and doesn’t fix anything. Empathy is important.

It’s the same when bible thumpers can’t see the good in autonomy of thought. Skepticism and freewill should make religion stronger, otherwise you might have a cult.
