What if a relationship is developed but not the characters themselves? Or is forced?
What if a relationship is developed but not the characters themselves? Or is forced?
-Love triangles
-The “will they, won’t they?” dynamic stretched out for the entire runtime of a series
-Characters waiting to hook up until the very end (see above)
-Characters getting together and then breaking up only to get back together later
-Red herring romance characters
-Basically everything from the 2000s Spider-Man movies regarding romance (I love those movies but that got tedious)
And it’s not impossible to write stable, healthy relationships in a way that’s still interesting. Look at Hiccup and Astrid, or Nick and Nora Charles. The problem is that most writers are just too lazy or plain not skilled enough to do it.
