Literary Fiction has become a oversaturated Boring cliche genre only liked by balding 50 years old white males

I’ve ranted against “classic” lit as a denotation before. Stuffy, cynical, fat old men huffing and puffing about “classics”. The scifi fantasy ghetto is a creation of those hoitytotiy milk sops.
 
Why does a story about a mad scientist creating a meat golem or a centuries old immortal undead blood sucker get labeled exclusively as “classic” lit or “literary fiction” when other such fantastical works get plastered with “fantasy” as a pejorative? Lord of the Rings is “for children” and fantasy is “weak writing” but a man sailing to an island of tiny people or an old wizard lamenting the dawn of technology is “omg a classic”.
 
Tell them that Mary Shelly, Bram Stoker, Jules Veern, and Kurt Vonnegut wrote stuff that can be called fantasy and their fucking heads spin.

A lot of “Classical” fiction would get labeled as “Genre Fiction” and get looked down on if it was made today

Show don’t tell is a general rule, not something to be followed all the time  
Talented writers can get away with telling not showing, good example here

Beginner and hobbyist writers need to learn and understand the rules before breaking them.

“Show don’t tell” is something a lot of anime writers need to realize before writing any word.

Fear is underrated. Firstly, it’s needed for our survival since our “common sense” on staying away from dangerous animals, environments and actions is our fear of dying. In some cases, it’s also part of mercy since we fear going too far (there’s even a Batman episode where Scarecrow makes anti-fear gas and Batman gets sprayed, causing him to almost kill Scarecrow, since he no longer feared going too far and taking a life).
 
Fear is also underrated in story-telling, since how people react to their fears says a lot about them. Someone who tries to overcome it has more willpower and bravery than someone who tries to just avoid it altogether. It’s a great character moment when the coward or the character in an environment that is linked to their fear overcomes it to save their friends/allies.

You say that like terms aren’t regularly mutated and misused by groups for them to mean what they want them to mean. Just look at natural selection being misrepresented with social darwinism.

My point is that survival of the fittest had nothing to do with Muscles and “toughness”. Which is why Small generalist animals survive extinction events better than Big animals.
