They are more worried about “their childhood dying” with the corporation going under than the actual quality of the product. They likely also already “ruin their childhood” by looking up porn of said childhood characters, but that 10000% not the same.

Whatever about Disney I just want to see them get back into 2d animation. Even if Frog and the Princess failed to revive 2d maybe they can try again. I mean Encanto is quite possibly the peak of 3d. So why not try 2d again?
(I know this is unlikely but I’d love the to see a second Disney renaissance instead of another live action remake)

I remember when MLP was coming out some bronies hyping the fuck out of it and seriously thought it was going to be a 2D renaissance on the level of Frozen

Yeah. That’s my problem though. If Rey is a Mary Sue, Luke is not only worse but a boring version of it. She at least was supposed to have a cool inheritor storyline to a burned out space hippy, move past the near dead old good guy order, fight her sexy conflicted emo bad boy rival crush, and be nobody from nowhere. Again, thanks for Rise, Mr. Abhrams…thanks….alot.
Luke is the chosen one. That’s it. He’s the chosen one from a chosen one daddy and fights the big bad guy.
I’ve read this story on the back of every fantasy novel in a bookstore ever and find it deeply bland and uninteresting. Hell I’ve seen it in books from the 70’s.
They may be written worse, but it’s at least it’s more interesting. That’s my feelings on it anyway.
I think Rian Johnson should have just been in charge of the whole trilogy. He’s not a nostalgic squeeing fanboy like JJ is.

I actually agree a little bit here.
Luke, at least movie Luke, wasn’t actually super interesting as a character. He was more interesting as a sort of cultural touchstone and representation of Star Wars. He was basically Mario, the image of the brand.
I wouldn’t call him boring per se, but as a standalone character Luke wouldn’t have been that interesting, he and his story were interesting due to the world they inhabited.
Now, Luke got much, much more interesting in the expanded works, as well as in hindsight when we learned the full story of his Daddy.
Also, quick aside, Luke technically isn’t the “Chosen One” per se, at least not in universe. Anakin is, but Luke’s story is still a bread and butter “heroes story” so he feels like the chosen one.

I can see how people like it. It just never caught me because it was something I’ve seen before that same way so many times.
Never was too interested in the expanded works, because everything I looked at was just…eeeeeehh or bad. And stuff like anti-force kung fu, anti-force snake people, and Jurassic park raptors that used people’s ghosts to power their ships turned me the hell off even more. It felt like something that had no reason to be the Marvel/DC universes in all their complexity decided it needed to be.
Admittedly that one is probably because I was sold Star Wars as this serious epic…then the EU kung fu happens.

I don’t agree at all. Rey is a mary sue because she doesn’t face any hardships, everyone loves her, she goes through everything and becomes a master of the force in a year. Luke goes through a lot, he’s severely beaten and loses his hand, and barely beats his father out of anger after he becomes a Knight, and he’s still not at his full potential.
Now, I’m specifically talking about the original textbook definition of a mary-sue. The kind from the Star Trek fics.

Reminder that the original coiner of that phrase hates it because it has become nothing but an excuse to attack woman for being effective in story,
Rey wants to go back to her terrible home because she’s so completely lacking in self worth that a vague promise of return is enough to maintain her loyalty for like 12 years, and only moves on when a person actually deserving of that loyalty dies giving her a reason to look for another source of validation, who wants nothing to do with her, then she flees that for yet another one which backfires horribly when she gives control of the first order to a unstable man going through extreme trauma, Han’s death and Kylo not redeeming at the end of the Last Jedi literally prevent her from falling into the classic definition,

I don’t really care about the hardships he goes through. I find them to be dull and Rey’s to be interesting.

That was a back peddle to try and appease fans, who were pissed about the idea of non inherited importance, and wanted one of the worst elements of the old EU to be enforced and it being done so in a lackluster manner

I would have rather they stuck with the original concept of Finn being the main character. He had so much squandered potential in the trilogy.
@Background Pony #3A07
Luke is still a great character that works off of Leia, Han and everyone else. I don’t personally understand how you can look at his moments in Return of the Jedi and call him “boring” but you do you.
