I think it's due to MLP:FIM attracting furries and Tumblrites because it's a cute cartoon for nerds, which inevitably attracts leftists (who form a huge portion of those nerds).
Aryanne is a result of 4channer culture promoting a Trojan horse, which conversely led to more fascists into the fandom.
