If they really wanted to compete with Disney on that front perhaps they should realize shows like Owl House probably have a great female audience.

It’s like going against Faust with how girls love fantasy. And to me by extension girls would love the fantastical nature of animation.
Of course it’s possible this post is justifying what was already decided upon in the first place.

It seems Cartoon Network wants to compete with Disney and Nick on the live action front. I don’t know if there is necessarily anything wrong with that in and of itself.

That being said I do think they are misunderstanding how much of a teen girl demographic still watches cartoons especially in this 2020s. Not just when they become adults and have nostalgia for their childhood.
I wonder if with Nick and Disney they dont realize live action supplements the cartoons not replaces them. I’m sore many teen girls watch both live action AND The Owl House.

The whole graduating from animation thing is a really dumb comment, but this isn’t going to be another CNReal situation. The article where this comes from states their live-action plans are going to be mostly for HBOMax, so we’re not going to be seeing a huge push on Network like a decade ago.

Again, it’s a really awkward comment to make, especially when CN has some new shows with female main characters coming down the pipeline.

Ah that makes sense. I wish they had a little more caution with their words though.

What if Nickelodeon had its own version of Adult Swim? I don’t mean Nick at Nite, I mean a programming block that airs TV-14 and TV-MA shows.

Maybe the Nicktoons Network can have its own Adult Swim in partnership with MTV Entertainment Studios.

Imagine South Park and Beavis and Butthead airing on the network.

Strangely, it’s a woman saying this. I wonder if she was involved in the decision, or just had to announce it.

But yeah, these Cartoon Network hacks who think women don’t watch cartoons must have never been on social media a day in their lives. I don’t know how anyone can be this out of touch.
@Cosmas-the-Explorer
Indeed. Most popular cartoons these days involve and revolve around women and girls. Heck, if anything I’ve seen more girls liking cartoons than guys. How do you miss the zeitgeist this badly?

Ironically, hasn’t Cartoon Network cancelled shows because they appealed more to girls than guys? I believe something like that happened with Young Justice.
@Salamenace
Ah, okay. That makes it a little better. Still a really delusional comment to make.

Young Justice was cancelled because of a toy deal.
Young Justice was cancelled because of a toy deal.
IIRC Mattel was helping to fund the show in exchange for making a toyline based on the show.
The toyline done very poorly and Mattel cancelled it,and thus the show lost its main source of funding and thus the show got cancelled

Everyone forgets that the super popular action cartoons get cancelled because they cost a matric ton to make

You know, I always thought the chubby chick that followed that one angry woman that didn’t like the main guy was Bebe for some reason.

I wouldn’t really trust social media for much of anything. There were a lot of people on tumblr that whined people “took my little pony from me!!” when they never made posts about it until Gen-4 was popular.

Then you have to factor in how many have alt accounts. Most don’t want to admit for obvious reasons there are quite a few with multiple accounts to bump something. It’s either that, or somehow several people all have the same mannerisms.
Then you have the ones that just say they “love” the currently popular thing, I saw with some saying the “Love anime” but really knew the surface, and complained about the Isekais when ignoring tons of older shows because they want to be hip and trendy.
THEN you have the ones that say the “Love” something out of spite. Just saying it’s great to “own” the whoever as they’re to petty to say something sucks. I’ve seen this rather often.

…I don’t see what any of that has to do with what I said. Which is a very clear disproval of the idea that girls and women don’t like cartoons.

Thank god it got revived, despite the current seasons being… kinda divisive.

Amy Friedman, the head of kids and family programming at Warner Bros., took part in a keynote conversation at the TV Kids Summer Festival.
On the live-action expansion, Friedman noted: “Girls often graduate out of animation. Some of our most incredible competitors have been at the live-action game for a long time. We know that’s what girls want. With live action, we’re excited to reflect the world as it is, inviting girls in without alienating the boys. We do that through single-camera and multi-cam comedies and dramas.”
You didn’t read the article and who you are lighting the torches and sharpening the pitch forks did you?
I’m not defending what she has said, I will say I saw this personally.

My sister didn’t care much if at all about cartoons, she was more interested in watching full House, All That, The strage life of Alex Max, Amanda Vines, iCarly, The other Mary Kate and Ashly shows, Space cases to some degree. She hardly cared about animated stuff unless it was something that was mentioned at School like Pokémon.

First of all, we have no idea if what she said had been prepared by someone else, or if it actually was from her.

Secondly, maybe they WOULD like cartoons more if the ones they did enjoy didn’t get canned after two and a half seasons because “It DiDn’T fIt ThE nEtWoRk BrAnD.”

At least Friendship Is Magic ran for 9 seasons compared to other girl shows that didn’t last as long as FiM.

Good, i take The Dragon Prince over The Midnight Gospel. One is a quirky fun adventure, the other gave me existential anxiety.
