Okay, is it just me or has Dale’s annoying level been amped up from the show? Like, I get the whole straight man, funny man dynamic, but he’s kind of insufferable.

The idea that bootlegging is such a big crime in this universe and is treated on the same level as dealing drugs really bothers me.
Like, you’d think that the worst thing that could happen to toons would be getting censored or something. Must be some of that Gisney propaganda slipping in.

It’s fitting that I pirated this movie to watch it.
Also, I don’t feel the need to say more about the whole Peter Pan/Bobby Driscoll thing, because everyone else has already said everything that needs to be said. It’s in poor taste and they should’ve known better.

Dale’s rapping is so cringey, but it’s elevated somewhat by the fact that I know that Andy Samberg can rap well, so it puts it a step above Dee Dee Ramone’s.

The ponies are here!
I see they fixed the Two Applejacks error. I’m guessing that scene was unfinished in the trailer. Here, they look just like the movie, albeit smaller. My Little Pony, after all.

Seth Rogen joking about Seth Rogen’s cold dead eyes is funny as a meta gag, but doesn’t really hold up when 2019 Pumbaa’s eyes (and everything in the movie) are just as cold and dead.

Sorry, I didn’t see this earlier. I was posting my live reactions as I went through. I’ll try to keep it concise. I only have a little more left.
SPOILERS INBOUND:
Gadget and Zipper are such an uncanny couple. They have absolutely no chemistry, even in the movie. I think the filmmakers knew how off it was.
Oh, come on. The Mickey logo in the firework was a cheap gag.
A Jurassic Park reference, too. For no real reason other than “It exists.” And followed immediately by a Terminator 2 reference. I’m starting to see the later-era Nostalgia Critic comparisons.
I’m starting to get a headache because the constant references have me overstimulated. I can barely pay attention to the goddamn plot, as light as it is, because my brain is going, “Huh, there’s X, Y, and Z in this shot.” It was practically purpose-built for those “10 Hidden References You Missed In [Insert Movie Here]” videos. If you asked Doug Walker to reboot Rescue Rangers, he’d make this. I don’t know how he’d review it, though, since the film already comments on itself.
Oh my god. Ugly Sonic really does play more of a role in this movie than Gadget.
Ugly Sonic is such a weird joke. Like, the joke is that he exists, and that’s it. But who’s gonna get that joke five years from now? Hell, even today it’s a dated joke. The first Sonic trailer debuted in 2019.
That’s the thing with any humor: If it’s a joke that relies on the audience knowing current real life stuff to understand, then chances are it won’t hold up years on down the line. Like the ending of Two and a Half Men. Nobody is going to get it unless they are aware of the Charlie Sheen drama occurring at the time.
Was the polar bear a reference to something? It feels like with this film he has to be a reference, but I have no idea what.
It’s weird that they just straight-up forgot that Gadget existed in the climax. Especially considering that she literally only arrived in the third act.
You’ve got to be kidding me. They’re doing the “Oh no, Dale is dead” fakeout twice in the movie?
There’s Chip’s mom. I wonder if there’s porn of her yet. Funny, I always assumed that Chip and Dale were brothers.
And it ends with them lampshading the “Pop star does a serious take on the theme song” trope immediately right before doing it.
That’s the film in a nutshell, I feel. “Boy, bad rapping in films sure is bad. It’d be awful if we did bad rapping. Oh no, now we have to rap badly!” Saying X is bad and then doing X is not a joke. Or, well, it is a joke, but it’s too bad the punchline is everyone who paid to watch this movie.
Overall, that film was better than I expected, but that doesn’t mean it was very good. The references and reliance on nostalgia and self-aware humor really bogged it down, which is strange because when you strip them away, you’re left with a really basic, seen-before plot about the importance of friendship and teamwork. It is truly a very Doug Walker-esque movie, which blows my mind since it’s getting critical praise all across the board. But heck, at least Doug would be less likely to forget that over half of the main cast existed for most of the film. And for all his flaws, at least Doug is earnest and believes that what he’s doing is fine art. Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers isn’t, and it suffers for it.
I’d actually argue that it’s an insult to the original Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers show. And I’m not saying that from a stereotypical manchild nostalgia perspective, I’m saying that the way this movie is executed is an acknowledgement that a pure movie based on the Rescue Rangers cartoon wouldn’t be marketable. So instead we get all this meta-irony reference indulgence crap using Chip ‘n Dale as puppets. This movie could’ve been done with any old cartoon franchise. Imagine if they did this with DuckTales, or Bonkers.
I assume it’s only being praised because “Ooh, look how deep and clever this film is, making fun of Disney and movie tropes!” But, like, it’s still ultimately selling a product. It’s still arguing that copyright infringement is the same as human trafficking.
I give it 5/10 for some creative concepts and jokes and for the effort it took to animate it.

Oh, yeah, some of the tilted losers made it so obvious that the fact of Zipper’s movie VA significantly factored into their outrage.

I’m very confused as to where Fat Cat is, shouldn’t he be right there alongside the rest of the regular “cast”?

He should be, but that’s implying that this movie cares about the original series.
I’ve seen a lot of “Let people enjoy things!” and “My childhood is ruined!” takes acting as useful idiots to clog up the discourse, but the overall consensus I’ve seen from most people online, regardless of whether their overall opinion on the movie was positive or negative, is that it had no business being a Rescue Rangers film. They just slapped the label on for nostalgia and barely even used 60% of the original main characters.

Everything of seen if Slip and Fail is references cheap jokes and REALLY terrible inorganic dialog. The only thing it did right was have them sound like guys for once. That’s one out of a lot wrong.
Everyone I knew only wanted to see the “ugly Sonic” bits and those are all over the internet. So why bother watching the whole movie? Why was he there anyways? What did he add? It felt more like the Hollywood elites still being butthurt about it.

I’m not kidding when I say that Ugly Sonic has more of a presence in the movie than Gadget. Literally, he shows up twice at conventions, and then is the one to saves Chip and Dale at the end. Meanwhile, Gadget appears once in a flashback, then doesn’t show up until over one hour in, and almost immediately disappears after that until the very end of the movie. You could write her–a main character from the series–out of the movie entirely and very little would be changed.

“Hush, now. hide, all you little ones. rush, now, into middle of nowhere, singing and laughing will die. dreamless sleep follows the nowhere king. when his kingdom comes, darkness is nigh. quiet. crawl to the in-between silent, secretive feeling of fearsome hatred that reaches the skies. you will bring joy to the nowhere king when he sees the light leaving your eyes.” perfect song to sing to kids. 🙂

It’s very strange. Legit, if they made an entire movie focused on Gadget, it would practically be printing money. People would want to see it. Yet instead she’s in the movie for fewer than ten minutes.
@phoenixacezero
2019, officially. It was originally going to be in the style of the Alvin and the Chipmunks and Smurfs films, with CG characters in the human world, before that script was overhauled and Akiva Schaffer was attached to the movie. I’m not sure if what we got was any better, though.
