Update: Court docs and sources confirm that Cain Velasquez allegedly shot at a man charged with molesting his relative who is a minor; the man’s stepdad was hit.
Mercury News reports that Velasquez’s target, who is not the man who actually got shot, was arraigned Friday on a charge of a “lewd and lascivious act with a child under the age of 14.”
According to the report, which was based on sources with close knowledge of the case and court records, the whole thing began last week after Velasquez’s relative, who has not been named because they are a minor, reported being molested by a man at a home daycare. That man, 43 year-old Harry Eugene Goularte, lives at a home that hosts his mother’s daycare business and was charged with the felony count. He was arraigned on Friday and granted supervised release by a judge despite objections from the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.
That brought us to Monday, when Velasquez allegedly opened fire on a car that contained Goularte, his stepfather and at least one other person. The stepfather was hit, but Goularte was not.
Velasquez has declined a request for comment and his scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday. He is being held without bail.
