This is a win win for the consumers and the environment. For once I fully agree with the EU on this.
There is no real justification for non-replaceable batteries aside from planned obsolecence.

The standardization of charging ports, which is in discussion, coupled with easily replaceable batteries, should greatly reduce the electronic waste. Additionally, Timmermans is also working on a ban on the destruction of unsold devices to promote the re-use of materials.Alongside those changes, the EU is planning to work on a collection system for used devices, as well as on limiting the use of plastic materials in packaging of new smartphones.

Especially lately those pesky anti-pipeline protestors have been shutting down roads and transit lines in the Lower Mainland causing havoc to commuters all over the city. And our transit is already a POS by North American standards.
I don’t care what they’re protesting about. We have lives and jobs to tend to. Disrupting the flow for ordinary citizens ain’t the way to go.
