This is the final Airbus A380 built for Emirates.
I feel sad for it being short lived for such a marvelous flying machine.

This is the YAL-1, a terrifying aircraft equipped with a terrifying laser of… terror. More specifically, a chemical oxygen-iodine laser (COIL) for shooting down ballistic missiles on their way up, and in theory could work against aircraft as well by detonating their fuel and munitions payloads.
Thing is, though, in order to hit an ICBM in boost phase, you’d need to station your YAL-1 (read: converted Boeing 747 wrapped around a huge laser) pretty close to its launching point, something about which your enemy’s interceptors might have a point or two to raise — odds are you’re going to have some trouble keeping it in one piece long enough to justify the extremely large amount of money you’ve spent on it.
In spite of its proponents’ search for other potential applications — such as the idea of using it to shoot down other aircraft, pretty much all of which are more agile than the YAL-1 platform — the program was canceled in 2011.
But yeah, it will be some time before jets are shooting each other out of the sky with Star Wars-type lasers and whatnot.

Youtube has been recommending me these types of videos lately, and I decided to watch them because I can’t say no to animals being cute.

Laser weapons are already in the process of being added to C-130s and are small enough to mount to a Lear Jet.

You mean the ATL? I thought the Advanced Tactical Laser was discontinued after successful testing?
AFSOC is actively pursuing a directed-energy weapon onboard the AC-130J in place of the 30mm gun by 2022, if that’s what you meant.
Still a far cry from the aforementioned scenario, though… or is it?

Considering it’s the US Government, we are likely way further along than we’re willing to say.

Considering it’s the US Government, we are likely way further along than we’re willing to say.
It’s not too big a stretch of the imagination. The B-2 was regarded as one of the government’s most secretive experimental planes of all time. It was developed in secrecy from as early as 1980, but didn’t get its first public display until 1988.
More recently, the Northrop Grumman RQ-180 has been developed in secrecy. The program dates back to at least 2005 and to this day the RQ-180 remains elusive, in spite of the fact that it supposedly went into action in 2015. So it took at least 8 years for the B-2 to become public knowledge, and it’s been about 15 years since the RQ-180 went into development and yet still very little is known about it.
To say nothing of another top secret military project, codenamed Blackstar.

It’s weird how boredom can make you try to use Pokemon logic to USA military jets. (Well, the YF-12 was probably more of a rocket, but still)
