To drive that point even further (Spoilers for the finale of Season 3):
||The very last scene of season 3 is Homelander and his son (son by rape, mind you) greeting his fanbase that consist almost enterLYly of white supremist and QAnon type people (the QAnon Shaman is even with them!) and them cheering him over the fact that he has a son. An anti-Homelander protester ends up throwing a water bottle at his sons head, Homelander responds to this by blasting the guys head with heris laser eyes and causing his head to explode in front of thousands of people and on live TV... and the crowd *CHEERS HIM ON FOR DOING THIS*||
This is the exact moment he realises that he doesn't even need to hide behind good PR or protect his image anymore. He knows that he legit can just ||straight up murder people in full view of everone in broad daylight and still be cheered for it, and to make matter worse, as of right now there is literally NO ONE who is able to stop him, mentally or physically||
