That isn’t capitalism…
Capitalism is an individual owning land or other means of production that other people work on/with, with the profits from what’s produced (which can include simply rent) going to the owner for them to decide how to distribute (if at all). Those that do not own land / the means with which to produce wealth are simply a lower caste and must use their bodies by renting themselves out to the rich (who more often than not simply inherited their riches, directly or indirectly).

It’s interesting how people ignore all the capitalist countries in the world that are complete dregs. Nobody ever seems to care that Liberia or Bangladesh are paragons of capitalism… Did you know that most failed states are capitalist? That the poorest and most destitute people almost all live in capitalist countries?
Capitalism is the “successful system” in “successful countries” because those countries were already “successful” and it was the progression from feudalism. Plus the system fits well with base human behaviors like hoarding and not caring about, or actively abusing, strangers; a child can grasp how it works at a fundamental level.
And it’s the system that’s stuck because the political and social (like church) structures that have been in place for so long are filled with people that actively benefit from the system not changing. Politicians are almost all rich, and practically all of them are in the pocket of corporations that thrive, or outright depend on capitalism.
These “successful” countries didn’t “choose” capitalism, it was just the default they started off with and that the rich elits governing them will never move away from because it’d take away their power. And the people below them just accept it out of social inertia.

Of course the vast majority of countries are going to be capitalist, though trying to argue that countries that are capitalist are successfull because they were sucessful before that point ignores the countries, specifically in Asia, that have improved significantly once they began embracing it. You’re forgetting the strong correlation between more free economies and prosperous peoples.
The system works well because it recognizes that yes, people are self interested, and it’s better to work with that, encouraging both competition and cooperation. No other system right now has shown to be better, maybe in the future when we reach a point of post-scarcity we will find a new way of living.
