Has Ted Cruz done literally ANYTHING good in his career?

Because I only hear very bad things about him as both a politicians and a person.

Personally I would have liked to see him go a bit higher on the amount, but I’m not going to begrudge him for looking to forgive exactly what he suggested forgiving during his campaign. Especially since he’s never going to get the Republicans in congress to go along with any amount he suggests, and there are still arguments about his power to actually do that sort of thing.

It does seem a bit disingenuous to call it a “start” though, since there are a number of other things he’s done to cancel student loan debt since taking office.

So really, forgiving $10k would entirely clear student debt for a third of those who still have it and cut it in half for an additional 20% after that. Maybe not what everyone was hoping, but certainly not a bad deal.

Not at all. He and Trump even went at it during the 2016 GOP primary and then when Trump won he went to kissing his ass.

Context?

In a way, he provided the nation a walking rebuttal to the argument that the GOP has standards before Trump came along. He is living proof that all the qualification you need to win as a Republican is run as a Republican…before Trump came along and switched to being Republican 5 minutes before running for president.

So yeah, he was a cautionary tale before he became obsolete.

Yes. He’s such a disgrace that the closest to a good thing he did was when he almost sank his own attempt to stop Obamacare.

Maybe I missed the subhuman stuff. can you show me? The only things I’ve seen so far are her worried about is that she as someone who was a tomboy growing up, is worried that someone like her would get swept into the social contagion when they arent trans.

Not to mention the adults who will abuse their positions of power to nudge them into these circles.

Here’s the thing though; people who support dangerous ideas can still be considered heinous even if they don’t directly hurt or kill people themselves. Henry Ford, for example, didn’t explicitly intend on the genocide of Jews and others, but he still published newspapers which normalized anti-Semitism. And then there’s Doug Walker who, despite not engaging in the toxic behavior which made Channel Awesome not so awesome, allowed it to happen regardless.

Rowling has gone out of her way to make numerous statements denying or downplaying the plight of transgender people, to the point that she is considered a TERF in some circles. But it doesn’t stop there. In June 2020 the Equality Act was blocked in the US Senate, with Republicans such as Oklahoma’s James Lankford citing Rowling’s comments as an inspiration. And while Rowling is in no way friendly towards the GOP or Vladimir Putin, the latter has expressed his support for Rowling’s views on transgenders.

I don’t know why you’d come to that conclusion. I wasn’t talking about where you stand on the issue, but rather I was voicing my counter-argument to why you thought my position was wrong.

I do find your position understandable. Sadly, there are rarely perfect solutions, and while I do sincerely believe that getting rid of guns will make most Americans safer on average, it’s probably unavoidable that some will face increased danger as a result. Unfortunately that’s just how broad, sweeping measures work - we can do what we can to mitigate them, but there are limits. Still, I can understand if those people will oppose us anyway.

We talking about JK? Yeah she’s been pulled further and further down the anti-trans rabbithole from about 2018 onward. Calls anyone who criticizes her for it a misogynist. Fully believes most if not all the TERF talking points. Also is friends with a growing number of far-right British figures if only because they validate her opinions on trans people.

Didn’t help that for a couple years there was a #NoDebate on the issue, preventing any healthy discussing and input of people that didn’t align with what trans side wanted to push as any even slightly opposing view was immediately labeled transphobic. Censored and banned for not falling in line.

A person not believing in the idea of gender being a social construct doesn’t hate trans people, nor does that equate a person being erased and being overly hyperbolic about it does nothing but seed more division, because how does one open a dialogue with a person who tries to vilify you on every step. And yes i am fully aware that on the gender critical side some people also do the same by pushing narratives of all trans people being sexual deviants. NEITHER of these extremes do help anyone in this.

Though even if someone on the gender critical side was to give into the idea that gender is a social construct, for them that just means defaulting back to sex as the important factor and gender being a performance piece on top that shouldn’t be a deciding factor for anything really.

As I’ve said before, if the only thing preventing a psychopath from being treated as one is that the law doesn’t restrict their gun hoard, than they are part of the problem. I rather not have more people die unnecessarily, but I rather that more die in the the short term for more to live in the long term (especially if the dead involves violent criminals who are just one bad day away from doing a whole lot more damage than if they were treated as the psychopath they are).

Funny how much politicians go “think of the children” when it comes to things like porn and other things children shouldn’t be involved in the first place, but as soon as something that does affect children happens that inconvenience them (like gun control and lootboxes), they say “fuck the children.” “Funny” how that happens.
