Putin was part of the Soviet Union’s secret service, it it only makes sense he would fetishize Stalin. Also, the reason for that was due to Stalin faking a seizure before and had the guards executed for running in to save his life, so the next set weren’t going to make the same “mistake.”

Assuming direct control did not in fact work so well even for Stalin, who at least had enough presence of mind to relinquish control back to the military before the situation became untenable, but this reminds me more of Nicholas II. Let’s hope it wouldn’t take three years this time.
Do you have any sources? Purposefully faking seizure and executing personal guards sound like an urban legend if I ever heard one.

Except Putin hates communism and the only reason he has affinity for Stalin is WWII and (for better or for worse) being leader at the peak of the Soviet Union’s power (He’s also viewed favorably in Georgia, where Stalin was born and raised, and Armenia). The real analogy is Nicholas II, who was a literal monarch and a million times worse than any Soviet leader. Suffice to say things didn’t work out for him, or his family. Not that anyone felt bad, of course.

The AK 47 is one of the best rifles in history. It’s famous for the sheer reliability. One of the tales used for propaganda is how you can leave the thing buried in mud for 20 years and it’ll still never jam.
Well, apparently those exact rifles are now being issued since Russian conscripts are posting photos of them being given rusted AKs.

Considering what happened to the Commonwealth of England after the parliamentarians decided to simply exile Charles II after they beheaded his father, I don’t think the Bolsheviks wanted to take a similar risk (and history since then would prove them sorta right since ex-Chinese emperor Puyi betrayed his country and buddied with Japan in the 30s-40s; he’s lucky he only got a prison sentence).

Not enough of them here, private ownership was significantly restricted, military ones were sold to other countries or scrapped in their own time.
If we are being serious Russia is not going to run out of rifles, but rifles are neither the problem nor a solution here.
Also just in case AK47 was never called that officially, just AK, and the vast majority of “old” AKs you see out there are AKMs - AK had relatively limited (at least for the Soviets) production run.

From an article I read, it seems like their training led them to focus their attention on the suspect in order to be ready for any surprise they might spring on them (since this is America, where guns are ubiquitous), and this came at the expense of their situational awareness.
