I prefer life imprisonment over the death penalty TBH.
First because of the possibility of miscarriages of justice: how many have been condemned to death, only to have their name cleared only after their execution? You can still release someone who’s done time for nothing, you can’t bring back to life someone who’s been wrongfully executed.
But even if you only consider those who are obviously guilty, like the guy you’re talking about, killing the bastard won’t bring his victims back to life either anyway. Let him rot in captivity for the rest of his miserable life instead, that’s all he deserves — besides, given how long the waiting time before being executed can get (and how some death row inmates often die of natural causes before that), you have there yet another reason that makes death penalty pretty pointless IMHO.

Honestly, speaking as an outsider here, “modern US society” aren’t even about Christianity. They use religion when it’s convenient to them. They are not Christians who happen to be Americans, they are Americans who happen to be Christians. Even if the religion somehow changes overnight, they’d still act exactly the same, just with different words.
Jesus was a lowly carpenter, not a king. He fed the poor, healed the sick and taught others to treat human beings with care and respect. The most basic teaching of Christ and they can’t even get that right.

They’ve crafted laws over the years that put the mechanisms of voting in the hands of each state. And since there is no specific line in the constitution about the president having any say over how the votes are conducted, the federal government wouldn’t have ground to stand on in terms of primacy.
Fun fact, btw, Trump may be screwing himself. A recent survey about voting habits showed that at least 16% of republicans say they would be less likely to vote if it was conducted by mail. A larger number of republicans are starting to claim that they feel their votes will be “unsecure”.
Factors like this can have a dampening effect. He may inadvertently cause some republicans to not cast their votes. While this likely would be an exceptionally small number, in any state with a razor thin margin, small changes can make or break him.
