Sad what what just happened in Lebanon. I don’t think it was a fluke or accident by any means. Ditto for what happened with the USS Liberty in 1967.

Only inasmuch as the authorities knew there was a shitload of ammonium nitrate stored in unsafe conditions and did nothing to prevent that disaster waiting to happen.

On another note, Twitter gradually became a substantially-severely shittier of a place after 2013. Not just because of the forced layout change in 2018, but also because of the current moderation team over there caring more about using their personal political and social views to directly dictate who should be suspended and permabanned from the site. The changes in their terms of use in recent years, such as the parts regarding use of “dehumanizing language” were meant to constrain and silence people who they don’t like, not just about being advertiser friendly. There is a difference between a publisher and a platform; something which Twitter, Facebook, reddit and Youtube are carelessly skirting around for one-sided, if not shady reasons. The “Fact Check” on Trump is not what it is presented to be, overall. It is a smokescreen; Jack Dorsey lied through his fucking teach to Congress. Of course CNN, MSNBC, Vox, and Mashable expect their viewers and readers to just receive and believe.

Sure, there’s that possibility.

>Shitload of ammonium nitrate in Beirut for years
Yes, that is indeed true. However, that doesn’t necessarily make it impossible for it to have been set off on purpose, overall.

President Donald Trump on Saturday afternoon openly vowed to permanently “terminate” the funding mechanism for both Social Security and Medicare if reelected in November—an admission that was seized upon by defenders of the popular safety net programs who have been warning for months that the administration’s threat to suspend the payroll tax in the name of economic relief during the Covid-19 pandemic was really a backdoor sabotage effort.
Announcing and then signing a series of legally dubious executive orders, including an effort to slash the emergency federal unemployment boost by $200 from the $600 previously implemented by Democrats, Trump touted his order for a payroll tax “holiday”—which experts noted would later have to be paid back—but said if he won in November that such a cut would become permanent.
The Trump campaign was apparently so satisfied with the public acknowledgement of the president’s promise to make the payroll tax permanent—a move that would inherently bankrupt the Social Security system—that it clipped the portion of the press conference and shared on social media immediately after it concluded. The president’s critics did as well, though they carried a different message:

Medicare is still sacrosanct, right?

Supposed to be. And the every non-Trump Republican/WH member trying to damage control Trump’s statement (as usual) means even they know people see it as such.

But we’ll find out in November if it actually is, or if the Cult of Trump values Dear Leader more than the single most popular program in the country.

…. Really?

Really.

TBF, I’m not gonna blame Trump right now. Everyone wants their face added to a monument.

It’s how Trump will handle the next few weeks is whether I’ll hold it against him. It’s one thing to idly want immortalization, it’s another if he spends the next few rallies “press conferences” going on about how “many people” ||RE:Only Donald Trump || have been saying he should be added to Mt. Rushmore.

Trump is trying to put his head on Mt. Rushmore.
There are much better Presidents to put on Mt Rushmore.

They should put Obama instead just to piss him off
||Really Eisenhower, FDR or Kennedy should be put on there ||

or just take it down completely

@Latecomer
That’s actually not true. If by atrocities you’re referring to the Holocaust. Both the governments and public knew of German war crimes, it just simply wasn’t big news:
The Times drowned its reports about the fate of Jews in the flood of wartime news.

https://www.nytimes.com/2001/11/14/news/150th-anniversary-1851-2001-turning-away-from-the-holocaust.html

Here’s a Daily Telegraph snippet from 1942:
full

Historian Simon Leader in his 2004 PhD thesis said:
[British] newspapers were fully aware of the Nazis’ intention to murder all Jews under their control by December 1942. They all reported the events that came to be understood as the Holocaust, (some in extraordinary detail) but the Manchester Guardian stood apart because of the consistency of its coverage

The Holocaust was not seen as anything very unique until way after the war, where it was exploited and turned into an almost religion where daring to blaspheme could get you thrown in prison in some countries.

White soldiers fought because their countries were in danger, but if only they could peer into the future to see what would happen to them. They would’ve wept to see what has become of them.
Latecomer

@Metro_Offset
Well then, there were surely those who fought to put a stop to things like that..

And you’re making quite the prsumption that the countries of today - still independent, powerful and unconqured - aren’t worth fighting for.

So acknowledging the Holocaust was horrible is supposed to be bad?

Also everyone ignoring the Holocaust at the beginning of the Nazi reign isn’t news, but it’s one of humanity’s biggest failures

And because of that, you think they should have rolled over for the Germans? The Third Reich didn’t subscribe to your notions of pan-Caucasian solidarity. They had some very particular ideas about which white people should be in charge, and those ideas were very unkind to everybody not named Adolf.

Non-whites and jews were dominantly tortured, but people tend to forget they also put Gays, gypsies, political opponents, war prisoners(including Poles, Soviets, US, etc.) and Jehovah’s Witnesses

A vast majority of the Nazi sympathizers you can find floating about would have likely been put in camps by the Nazis. Or, just used as slave labor/cannon fodder for the regime.

They like to picture themselves as the Übermensch, but they are most likely far from it.

Remember, no Irish, Scottish, Russians, northern Spaniards, Finnish, or Lithuanians. They failed to meet the standards of “perfect” for the Nazis.

Yeah, Irish especially. Back in the late 19th/early 20th century, they weren’t seen as “white enough”.

Seriously, is it that fuckin’ hard for humans, especially whites, to see human beings as human beings? Is it that fuckin’ hard for us to share this world with one another? Apparently it is…

It’s sad, especially seeing what’s been going on these past few years, that we haven’t come very far at all…

It’s sad that we have mongrels like Metro plaguing this world even right here in this site over a show that preaches kindness… Frankly, I don’t think I want to live in such a world as disgusting as this.

Reminder that nazis didn’t even like “white people”, their ideal people was a very specific set of blonde hair, blue eyed non-disabled non-handicapped Germanic descent. Everyone else could get bent.

Wonder how many nazi sympathizers fall into that narrow category.
