And if you keep a radical position that you know is distasteful to the majority of people you’re never going to get anywhere. Compromise exists because that is how things get done, refusing to budge and only demanding the entire system burn to the ground only results in your group being ostracized as a fringe wacko group and ignored. Meanwhile other people are working hard to reform the system to remove civil asset forfeiture and to reduce or remove qualified immunity. These people would like the tight grip of the police unions weakened and police training reformed, but their job is made harder when they are grouped with the minority screaming to abolish the police and calling all cops bastards.

Problem with that, is lots of weapons were “meant for war”. Even the 8 shot 45 1911 was meant for war and was a common sidearm carried by soldiers. Some even still carry modern versions to this day. Truthfully, nothing but the appearance of a gun makes it “for war”. Other than automatic weapons, which are difficult to get already and extremely expensive.

The British state has a track record of murdering people all over the world, killing its poorest citizens, showing no regards for citizens rights, and just being plain awful. Yet it gets the exclusive right on all weapons and the monopoly of violence? Why? Why can’t I as a lawful citizen own a weapon to defend myself with, yet the state which allowed its security forces to torture its own citizens is deemed ok to have the complete monopoly of violence:

Not if the fetus isn’t viable yet, it’s not (prior to 20 weeks, when it still doesn’t have a developed nervous system). Past that term, the only justified abortions are the therapeutic ones (if the pregnancy endangers the mother’s life or the child won’t survive the delivery — those are more akin to mercy kills).

Totally agree with you that gun safety should be taught in schools, and from my experience nearly every other gun owner feels the same way. I was taught gun safety when I was six by my father, and as such have never misused or mishandled guns, even when they were left loaded around the house.

Except that isn’t the end of the story. If being human or alive means being sentient… well… you can probably see where that logic falls flat. No matter what line you draw, you can still apply it to a actual person. It is human since the lifeform’s DNA is human from its beginning. It is the first stage of human life.

And by your logic, biological waste would also be human because it contains DNA.  
If it doesn’t have autonomous neural activity, it’s a thing, not a person (for the same reason, the euthanasia of brain-dead individuals should be legitimate, considering the person themself has passed).

Anyone else following the GameStop short squeeze? I find it hilarious, especially at all the libs crying about how hedge fund managers are the real victims, and how GamerGate/The Russians™️/Trump supporters are behind it.
 
More broadly, Biden’s reaction to it will give us the best indication about what kind of presidency Americans will be in for: if he bails out the hedge funds, then it’ll be a very “fuck you, poor people!” presidency; whereas if he does nothing, then there may be hope.

The problems of the state should be solved by improving the state. Would you like the state going around improving the citizens?
 
Amd while there are certainly armed police in this country, most carry out their duties with no more than a Taser - a status quo only possible due to the extreme unlikelihood of them facing criminals wth firearms. While the “shoot-first” attitude and militarisation of the American police is IMO very much tied to the idea that anyone they interact with might be carrying. Disarming the citizenry is the first step to disarming the hand of the state.
 
 
(Oh, and regarding a “clear line” between human and not post-conception… there isn’t IMO. You can pick one, but not prove it.)

I have two questions:
 
  1. In what way is the US government not giving $2000 (but a paltry $1400) to every citizen doing any good – could it be to avoid increasing debt and risking higher taxes? I’ve seen many people on Twitter complaining to the American government that this will hurt the poor, especially those with so much debt and a high cost of living.
     
  2. When I read things like this on the Internet, I get angry. I understand that we Chinese can get abused or sidelined by the government of Malaysia, but there are some people who not only side with the PRC, but they also want China to conquer Malaysia. They think that China will definitely protect them from abuse by the Malaysian government, even if that means losing their freedoms.
     
    What should I do with horrible people like them? I feel tempted to hate these kinds of traitors, and people like them make me feel ashamed of being Chinese! It makes me wonder, are we traitors against our own country…
