I’ll be sure to remember that when pregnant people die from preventable ectopic pregnancies and couples go broke from unwanted children, who’ll grow up in a system with defunded public education and traumatising events like school shootings are the norm.

a thing that annoys me about liberal defenders of liberal governments is a willingness to let them off the hook at 1 excuse for inaction. “we can’t do the needed thing, because X” is so often just accepted, there’s never a backup plan or alternate route expected of those in power

if the rules say you can’t, use your power to change the rules! that’s what power is for. if the public aren’t with you, what are you doing to change their perception? if you don’t have the votes, what are you doing to get them? just saying ‘go vote’ doesn’t count

if something is necessary, you should never let them off the hook until it is done. this is their job, they should expect roadblocks, have backup plans for their backup plans. “our opposition party surprised us by opposing us, so we can’t” is never an excuse

the blame falls not on the party who refuse to use their power, but on those who don’t support the party enthusiastically enough - even when the party is clearly signalling via their inaction that all they’d do with more power would be to come up with more excuses not to use it

sitting around hoping they get more votes next time isn’t doing something, that’s passing the responsibility on to those beneath them. they’re trusting in their supporters to be petty and hierarchical, to never question power & to punch down

So, I don’t know a damn thing about this dude so I can’t tell if his word is trustworthy or not…
